Carmen Miranda

A bittersweet, rye whiskey-forward cocktail with layers of herbal complexity and subtle overripe banana notes that somehow work beautifully together.

Originally adapted from a recipe created in 2016 at the now-shuttered Park Restaurant and Bar in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

1 oz 100 proof rye whiskey

1 oz Amaro Lucano

1/3 oz Giffard Banane du Brésil

1/6 oz Yellow Chartreuse (or génépy)

2 dashes Jerry Thomas bitters

3 drops saline solution

Stirred and served up.

This lands somewhere between an amaro Manhattan variation and a late-night contemplative sipper. The saline especially helps tie the herbal and fruit notes together. Curious if anyone else here has played with banana liqueur in whiskey cocktails beyond the usual tropical applications?
