Today is 3/14, or Pi Day!

Pi, which numerically is shown as 3.14 (and a bunch of other decimals), is incredibly important to several facets of mathematics.

So for today’s Featured Women in History, Go Girl presents…
Katherine Johnson.

Born Creola Katherine Coleman in 1918, Katherine Johnson is recognized as one of the first African-American women to work as a scientist for NASA.

Known as a “human computer” for her prowess in mathematics, her calculations were critical to NASA’s missions, including our trips into orbit and to the moon.

Johnson made the calculations to figure out launch trajectories, windows of opportunity for launch, return paths, and more.

Throughout her life, she loved math - but due to the limited opportunities available to African-Americans at the time, she had to work hard from an early age to continue her education.

Katherine’s accomplishments not only helped chart the way to space, but have help guide the way for other women in STEM.

Go Girl Linen
Start by cutting 5-6 thick slices of cucumber and squeeze half of a lemon in. Get 2 ounces of gin or vodka and 1 ounce of St Elderflower liquor. Shake and strain into a pint full of ice. Then add thin slices cucumber and top with Key Lime Ginger Go Girl!

Raspberry Caipirinhape
For this drink, you'll need 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and 2 ounces of fresh lime juice. Then mix together until sugar is dissolved. Add 2 ounces of cachaca rum, fill with ice and top with Raspberry Lemonade Go Girl!
