Three Maples Market Garden produces naturally grown vegetables with an emphasis on heirloom varieties and community involvement. We grow all our plants from seed, use only organic inputs, and do the vast majority of our fieldwork by hand. This is the winteriest winter in recent memory here in the Berkshires. This morning we were reminding each other that the piles of snow and periods of bitter cold all auger a good growing season with fewer pests and diseases. Plus it's beautiful!

In about two weeks we'll be champing at the bit for spring, but for now we're maintaining our winter composure. We're thinking of friends and farmers in areas that are getting hit hard by this winter storm -- hope you're safe and cozy!

It was fun to watch this storm roll in! Well, fun for me -- Cian was trellising tomatoes and had to scramble to finish the bed as the rain started falling.

We needed the rain. We need more rain still, but this was a nice drenching.

Look at that concentration! The confidence! The very efficient tiny hands!

Last week was spring vacation here which meant we had two extra farmhands helping with seeding, transplanting, watering, and generally causing a ruckus. They're back in school now and our spring routine is back to normal, but I have to admit I kind of miss the extra snack breaks they insisted on 😅
