Anyone else find themselves drooling over farm equipment? We have been! Started with a $50 lawnmower… and now we’re here. I have been less excited about new cars than about this beautiful Massey-Ferguson. She may be small but she’s got some real power! My husband beat me to the test drive since I was at work but I can’t wait for my turn behind the wheel! To be fair, he’s been our main beast of burden for almost two years now so I think he deserves some fun 🚜

In all the insanity, I have almost forgotten to post this! I got the chance to write a little about what we're doing for our favorite foodie magazine, Edible Indy, as well as lots of help and encouragement from Lynsey over at Peaceful & Practical Edible Gardens.

The dust and hay are still settling after the microburst we had a few months ago, but we are so grateful to be here and doing what we love.

The more our precious land is paved over, the less local food is available. When I picked up the phone and my husband started off by saying “First of all, I’m OK,” I knew it wouldn’t be good news. My husband, Warren, and I are working on restoring my great-grandmother’s farm in Westfield, ...

Nice bag, is that Prada?

Tulip is WEEKS behind schedule on calving and so we are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of a calf. It’s really hard to predict a time in heifers using the usual markers -I thought she would drop her baby a month ago, but that’s just Jerseys for you! Tulip’s genes are coded to produce milk with A1A2 proteins, but she was bred to an A2A2 male, so we have a fifty-fifty chance of a baby with the preferred A2A2 markers. It gets very detailed but essentially A2A2 milk is more easily processed by those with some forms of lactose intolerance. Her half-sister Rose has A2A2 milk and between that and some gorgeous cream lines, I am VERY happy with the milk we’re getting. It’ll be interesting to do taste comparisons and see if I can tell a flavor difference once they are both in milk, but until then we are checking on Tulip multiple times a day as we impatiently await the newest calf. We’ll report back on that whole milk protein situation and hopefully we can get some good cheese started here soon! I’m planning to try a new recipe for a farmhouse cheddar and make up some whipped herb butter.🌷🐮🌹

Don’t let her sweet face fool you -she was trying to jump through fences at two hours old, which is just one of the reasons we call her Disaster Aster. She’s pretty spunky!
