Every Bottle Has a Story. Do You Know the Story Behind Torpedo Red?

Next month, we’ll be featuring our Torpedo Red at the Lake Erie W**e Country Harvest Celebration Weekends! But this w**e is about more than what’s in your glass. It carries a story of family, service, and a legacy that spans generations.

Torpedo Red honors Johnson Estate W**ery founder Frederick Spencer Johnson, a World War II Navy torpedo bomber pilot who returned home to Westfield, NY, and founded our w**ery in 1961.

And what about the label? Designed by his grandson, Spencer Johnson, an active-duty U.S. Navy officer, it incorporates imagery inspired by Fred’s wartime service.

One of the best things about w**e is how it brings people together!

We love seeing moments like this one with Jon, Bottle360 ’s Director of Onboarding and a valued point of contact for Johnson Estate W**ery. Jon recently enjoyed a w**e tasting with friends and coworkers, sharing a bottle of our Liebestropfchen along the way.

There’s something special about a fall walk through the vineyards. You might hear acorns cracking beneath your feet, spot deer wandering through the fields, or catch the golden autumn sunlight shining through the colorful leaves. You never quite know what you’ll discover along the trail!

Come on out this weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM–4 PM, and bring the whole family! Enjoy a self-guided walk through our autumn vineyards and warm up along the way with a glass of our warm Red Ipocras blended with local apple c***r. 🍎🍷

Make a day of it, enjoy the fresh fall air, and take in the beautiful colors of Western New York while they last.

Fall is a wonderful time to explore Lake Erie W**e Country, and the Harvest Celebration Weekends are the perfect excuse to gather your friends, hit the w**e trail, and discover something delicious along the way!

Across two special weekends, 20 participating w**eries will feature unique w**e and food pairings inspired by the flavors of the harvest. Each stop offers a chance to sample thoughtfully paired local food and w**e, discover new favorites, and experience the variety that makes our w**e region so special.

🍷 Our Pairing at Johnson Estate W**ery

We’ll be featuring our 2022 Torpedo Red paired with smoked pulled pork sliders!

Torpedo Red is a limited-edition bottling of our Founders’ Red, crafted primarily from estate-grown Chancellor grapes (90%) with Pinot Noir (10%). This fruit-forward, lightly oaked red offers a medium body and fine tannins that complement the smoky, savory flavors of pulled pork.

A W**e with a Meaningful Story

Created in honor of Veterans Day, Torpedo Red pays tribute to w**ery founder Frederick Spencer Johnson, a World War II Navy torpedo bomber pilot. Its label was designed by his grandson, Spencer Johnson, an active-duty U.S. Navy officer.
