Anyone else thinking about next year's garden? I took some cuttings from my hibiscus 🌺 and hydrangea today. I'll over winter them in nursery pots and I'm thinking they will be the start some pick your own perennial rows next year.

This weekend I invested in some new genetics. I got three varieties of colocasia. Hawaiian black coral, redemption, and pharaohs mask. I also got 3 varieties of Abutilon "flowering maple trees" as well as a cutting of a fourth variety. These are tropical trees that must be brought in for the winter. My plan is to duplicate all of these varieties and be able to offer them locally in the spring. But for now stop in sometime when I'm open and check them out in person.

I also picked up an alocasia serendipity pink which can grow 6ft tall! I should have it producing corms and pups for sale by the spring.

Finally I broke up my large pink beauty caladium into 4" pots to offer once they start putting on new growth

It's a little late in the season but I broke out the incubator. I've been really wanting to focus on building a colored laying flock. Had a few predator issues this spring and am down to I believe one colored laying hen. However my rooster is a easter egger and previously I've found that breeding a colored breed with a brown egg breed leads to reds and purples. Anyhow it's a 21 day count down. It's pretty boring other than candling and when the action starts happening. I will definitely be posting those updates. Maybe a live hatch cam?

I'm not sure if it was momma approved but this morning the baby chic at about a week old made it's way outside with the rest of the flock. I went out around sunset to make sure momma was able to get the little one back inside for the night. My timing was perfect as I found momma inside the coop having dinner and calling while the little one was navigating it's way up the ramp to find mom.

One thing was apparent at the Westford garden tour. Quite a few people locally are interested in how tissue cultures work. Curious but afraid to make the jump to trying them yourself? I'm looking to host a tissue culture 101 course. I will order in TC's from my supplier and provide everything needed to prepare and acclimate them. You get to learn about how to turn an affordable TC into a beautiful plant in your collection. Acclimation takes 6-8 weeks. You will take home the TC's you've prepared and acclimate them at your home with my instructions. You will also get a decorative pot and my personal tropical mix soil for acclimation is complete. Pricing is going to fluctuate as I would like to take the time to talk to anyone interested and actually order them plants off their own personal wishlist. If interested comment or reach out via PM for more details and final plans. Most commercial plants are now TC starts even though they aren't advertised.

We have a new arrival in the farm that isn't a new plant for a change! Mom is all black Dad is all white! Curious if we'll end up with any siblings mom is still very much on the nest and the rest of the flock seems uninterested in the chic. So far so good. I prefer a more hands off approach with my poultry. As you can see I've made sure the chic has water and food there without wandering otherwise I leave it up to Mom and the flock.

Friday plant sale and weekly update.

This weekends plant sale is this Philodendron Billietiae Dark Form. On sale for $10 must pick up by Sunday 8pm.

I'll have the plant shop open tonight 7/31 4:30pm to 8pm and tomorrow Saturday 8/1 from 10am to 6pm. Come out and browse what I have for plants in stock.

Farm Stand is fully restocked. Washed eggs $5, unwashed eggs $3, zucchini, summer squash, patti pan squash, lemon squash, green/ yellow/ purple/ dragons tongue beans, jalapenos, 5 color hot peppers, violet sparkle sweet pepper, cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, and more! Self serve 7am-8pm.
