The first calf of 2025 surprised us all! Welcome, TULIP 🌷 Our calves are conceived naturally and spend several months with the bull. So at the end of the year, we have a vet come out and physically pregnancy check them for an estimated due date. Obviously it’s just an estimate but I think it was a combination of being this heifer’s first pregnancy and maybe a smaller calf that dated this birth as a summertime one. April 14, 2025

22 pounds of Red Pontiac potatoes harvested! Add that to the 16 pounds from a few days ago and I more than doubled the weight that I planted which is a win in my book :) The Yukon Gold rotted even though they were prepped and planted at the same time. I suspect that the three weeks of heavy rain in late April was too much for them.

The lilac bush got a little snippety snip. I recently watched a YouTube video talking about the three main ways to trim lilac bushes and the time of year you should do it and why. So, within 48 hours I implemented. That’s my personality. Our lilacs flowered 2-3 weeks ago so this is the perfect time to trim, once the purple flowers die back because lilacs set next years flowers almost immediately. Trimming soon after flowering shouldn’t affect the blooms for the following year. We didn’t have many flowers this year so I took out the three oldest and half dead sections to make it a more manageable size (third photo - tough to see with other trees) and 🥂 to more flowers in 2025.
