Bear Branch Malt We produce high quality and consistent craft malt using precision pneumatic malting and premium local grains.

Bear Branch Malt transforms locally grown barley, wheat, and rye into high quality craft malt to allow breweries and distilleries to create products rooted in local agriculture. Bear Branch Malt is an integral part of our 4th generation family farm, Garrettdale Farm, located in the rolling hills of Carroll County Maryland. In addition to malting we raise cattle, sheep, grow small grains, and hops with a focus on regenerative agriculture. We partner with local growers and are able to source all of our raw grains from within a 20 mile radius. We offer a variety of base malts and specialties including Vienna, Munich, Golden Honey, Double Honey, Caramel Rye, and more.

Who's ready to celebrate Craft Malt Month with us this September?!
When you choose craft malt, you're supporting the farmers, maltsters, and brewers right here in your community. We're celebrating local craft beverages built on locally grown grain, malted right here on our family farm, and crafted into exceptional products by the breweries and distilleries we're proud to supply.

Five stops this month, all pouring drinks made with Maryland-grown malt:

- Sept 2 – Brewery Fire Taphouse, Westminster
- Sept 8 – Forward Brewing, Annapolis
- Sept 17 – The W**e Source, Baltimore
- Sept 21 – Henceforth, Washington DC
- Sept 29 – Max's Taphouse, Baltimore: Grand Celebration tap takeover, 15-20 local beers on tap!

Come out to taste great beers, learn about malt, and support local agriculture!

Cover crops in action. Our malting barley is planted in the fall, protecting our fields through winter. Now in spring, it's thriving in mid-growth stage. But it's doing so much more than just growing a crop. While it develops, it prevents erosion, holds topsoil in place, and builds organic matter. It keeps nutrients from leaching away and gives life back to our soil biology. When we harvest, we'll leave the straw in the field as soil armor—it protects and feeds the soil rather than removing critical biomass. That's regenerative agriculture—using every season, every plant to strengthen the land itself. By then, our fields will be healthier and our soil will be richer for it.
