Last night, the rain cleared just in time.
The sun came out, the goldenrod, dahlias, and meadow were glistening, and one very long table stretched across the beautiful grounds of Lachat Farm. Neighbors from Weston and across Fairfield County gathered to do something wonderfully simple: sit down together. They shared a meal, passed dishes, swapped stories, met someone new and spent an evening in community.
And setting the mood for the entire evening was the beautiful jazz music of On the Count of Two. We heard rave reviews all night long and they truly provided the perfect soundtrack for dinner in the meadow. The Longest Table is a nationwide movement bringing communities together around a shared table, and last night we understood why. In a world where we seem to spend more and more time apart, there is something beautifully old fashioned about neighbors sitting down together over a meal. Looking down that long table, filled with conversation, laughter and new connections, was a pretty wonderful reminder of what community can look like.

A huge thank you to Kim McGrath and Min Santandrea for helping to organize this incredible evening, and especially to our wonderful Table Captains who welcomed their guests, coordinated dishes and helped turn a table of neighbors into a community.
