One detail most people miss: Vega Sicilia's founder hauled Bordeaux vine cuttings home to the Duero in 1864, and Unico still spends about ten years in barrel and bottle before release, one of the longest-aged reds on earth, called Spain's First Growth.

The story: Clos Erasmus is named for the Renaissance humanist Erasmus, a favorite author of founder Daphne Glorian's father; she started with a couple of hectares in 1989 as one of the band of friends who resurrected the near-abandoned Priorat.
Rated 100 points by Robert Parker. The 2020 vintage.
