Day 335

Do you have any guesses?
Filly (girl) or c**t (boy)?
What day will she foal? (335-365)
What color?

It’s 8pm.
My house is trashed and looks like I did absolutely nothing all day. That is so far from true though.
I made some rhubarb liqueur, picked more flower petals for my infused oil and added more oil once the UPS guy arrived. Took care of some online returns, went thrifting, taxi drove my daughter to and from work, did some bank errands, started to clean the garage to prepare for a yard sale (someday), decluttered the office space, did laundry, made strawberry freezer jam, spilled bacon grease all over the kitchen floor and had to clean that up, cooked some macaroni salad and steak for dinner… there might be more but I’m too tired to remember.

Tomorrow it’s going to rain… what do you have planned?

My literal favorite thing to do is go “grocery shopping“ in my yard. This is part of what I picked this morning of my available crop. I also have some herbs- chives, thyme, sage, mint, and some lettuce read to eat! It’s the most rewarding and nutritious thing to do. Everyone should have a little garden. Even just the perennials provide so much!

The busy season is officially underway. Gardening by day and hauling horses by night.

My daughter has been barrel racing Captain, our Morgan horse for a few years now. They have so much fun. This will be Captains last season most likely as he is turning 21 next month and we want to slow him down a little. It’s going to be hard though… he LOVES to run!

***** IF I AM NOT AROUND, PLEASE TAKE WHAT YOU WANT AND LEAVE CASH IN THE BUCKET. ALL PLANTS ARE ON THE FRONT SIDEWALK *****

My tomato plants are leggy becomes started them a little early.
Not to worry, they will grow just fine despite looking a little funny. Here’s a great guide I found online and utilize myself when I plant my tomatoes.

LOTS of plants left! Please come get them and pay what you can. My suggested price is $3, but if you can’t afford that, I’m open to barter (got eggs, some old sprouting potatoes, a perennial plant?) or simply take what you will use!

Plants are coming out of the basement. Plant sale starts Today.

Mostly tomato varieties and pepper varieties but a few other starts as well in limited quantities.

Some Tomato plants are very long and should be planted deep. Bury as deep as you can, preferably on an angle for the best root system

Come on out- by donation - suggested donation is $3/per plant!

So, I’m very excited to try this greenstalk garden, especially over the winter. I’ve been watching and I ordered 2 of them to grow leafy greens, beets, carrots and herbs over the winter for fresh food without going to the grocery store. It’s been my goal to grow all of our food from home for the year, and I think this will help tremendously.

This is the LEAF model, 7” deep and I actually bought it cheaper on the website.

The horses all had their annual vet checks and vaccines yesterday. They all scored excellent on their body condition and everyone is nice and healthy.

Ziggy is doing great despite being the menace baby he is. 🤣 we added a 3rd line to the electric fence and he still escaped the other morning, but he’s generally a good boy about being caught and put back. He’s VERY leggy and butt high right now so he’s likely to go from 15.05HH to probably 15.1HH or so soon! We have a plan for muscling him up this summer as his back end is less muscular than his front.

Willa is a month away from foaling and everyone is so excited to meet the little one! We have the plan for when the baby comes.

I’m so glad it’s summer season now and we have more good weather to work with the horses.

A little yard sprucing today.

We put a new layer of landscape fabric down and added a new layer of crush stone/sand material.

Joe used an old dozer track to make a heavy duty fire pit. What better fire pit for a heavy machine mechanic?!
