I almost never hop up on my soapbox and I feel incredibly awkward doing so as I’m just another breeder, so who am I to voice my opinion? 🤓 I really do try to stay humble and keep a level head as far as ego goes. But this is a post that has been floating around in my head for well over a year and continues to do so as I’m seeing more and more “speckled eggs” being offered for sale across the chicken community. I have started to type up numerous posts like this and never actually share. Let’s see how I feel and if I post this once I’m done typing it all out. 🙃
✨Did you know✨ that we created our specked Olive Egger line solely from a few lines of PURE BREEDS from a few select breeders? While we have hatched and used (temporarily) MAYBE 5?, ladies (~NEVER any roosters~) over the years from other breeders Olive Egger projects, they didn’t quite make the cut to move forward to use in our own next generation, for one reason or another. That means our Multigen Olive line was made from scratch by us and that feels pretty cool!
I have always tended to over share about projects/breedings compared to most and vowed to never really “gate keep” much. We have thanked (I believe!) all breeders publicly that we get stock from and used along our journey. As our page has grown, many people may not have seen those earlier posts/shares/stories but let this serve as another huge shout out and thank you to the OG purebred lines (or the farms they came from anyway) that helped us gather the main “ingredients” we needed to make OUR dream speckled Olive Egger line a reality. 💞

These are the farms we sourced from our very first year and those very first generations building what is now quite an exciting Multigen Olive Egger line. I am forever grateful and so very thankful to those above breeders for sharing their lines with us and to so many others out there as well! 💗 It’s not an easy industry to stick out for years on end and I can’t blame anyone for walking away when they do. It’s tough!
We did bring in even more purebreds in the following years from other breeders, but the ones mentioned above gave us most of our foundation for our Multigen Olive Egger line.
With that all said - this is where my thoughts go haywire. Since Nov last year I have shipped out almost 400 dozen hatching eggs (that’s 6k eggs as I ship 15 eggs per box). 🫠
After figuring that all out lol (because dang that’s eye opening) maybe the only other thing I’ll say is very simplified and kind of a repeat of an earlier post this year….please don’t take hatching eggs you’re sent from someone else and claim them as your own, even if just for clout. Please don’t use photos of breeders birds and eggs to advertise what you’ll have “next season”. Also for the love of all things don’t buy a ton of someone’s genetics and proceed to claim the results are from years of your own hard work and selective breeding. 🤦🏼♀️ There is dishonesty in all of those things and generally karma takes care of it and my boundaries will for sure firm up but for any newer breeders out there let this be food for thought. And finally, don’t forget to be thankful for where and how you began your journey (because we all start somewhere!) and definitely don’t count your chicks before they hatch. 😉🫶 This paragraph is NOT about any one specific person (I barely see what you all do out there and still can’t really keep track of who is who lol) but if the shoe fits… I still love you but consider doing better.
PS in case anyone thought this was where the post was going - I’ll continue raising prices based on each generation/year WE are in, with our projects. I will not participate in auctions/waffles unless for a well thought out/organized good cause. While everyone’s goals here are different and what everyone decides to do for their own farm is aok with me - my goal has *never* revolved around money or trying to make as much as I can. My offerings will remain fair/first come first served, no amount of money can buy your way to the front of the line and I will turn away anyone who offers any amount of money for a dozen hatching eggs, just like we have done for years. 🙂💞
