😎🐑🌳Buckthorn gets a bad wrap, but shade is shade for the sheep when it’s 98F.

Benefits are many with silvopasture, and improved animal welfare from the shade and shelter that trees and shrubs provide is an obvious one. Perhaps less obvious is the co-benefit of increased food intake during extreme heat for animals with access to shade. Increased intake = higher average daily gain = bigger paycheck for us at the end of the season.

Buckthorn for the win!! Lol

🥭🐧 A couple exciting FIRSTS here at BOB this spring!!

—First PAWPAW flowers!! 🌺🥭 (NC-1 grafted on a northern seedling rootstock, zone 5a Champlain Valley, NY)

—First BOBOLINK!! 🐧 And perched in a buckthorn no less, for all the buckthorn haters out there Lol (apologies for the poor photo quality - the iPhone-thru-the-binos technique isn’t perfect but you at least get the idea 😝 And technically this is more of a ‘return of the bobolinks’ rather than a true 1st, but it’s a first for us since we arrived at the farm)

Exciting to see our tree planting and pasture renovation efforts beginning to bear fruit!! 🐧🥭
