Notice of a Public Hearing on the Scientific Literature Review of the Effects of Neonicotinoids on Pollinators.

This virtual public hearing will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.

Zoom details and other hearing information are available at https://www.mass.gov/event/neonics-scientific-literature-review-public-hearing-2020-12-10t100000-0500-2020-12-10t120000

We need all beekeepers and citizens concerned about pollinators to attend the virtual hearing on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M and to submit written testimony by email before 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

The testimony should state that the scientific literature review of the effects of neonicotinoids on pollinators commissioned by the Pesticide Board Subcommittee, acting through the Department of Agricultural Resources, under its authority pursuant to FY20GAA-2511-0100, M.G.L. c. 132B, Section 3A clearly demonstrates that there is overwhelming scientific evidence that neonicotinoid insecticides pose unreasonable adverse effects to the environment as well as pollinators and that H.763 - An Act to protect Massachusetts pollinators should be passed without delay.

Please copy your state legislators on the email and request that they urge the Speaker of the House to bring H.763 - An Act to protect Massachusetts pollinators to the floor for a vote before the end of the year.

This written testimony must be submitted to the Pesticide Board Subcommittee by email to [email protected] or by mail to Taryn LaScola-Miner, 251 Causeway Street, Suite 500, Boston, MA 02114-2151 before 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

You can find your state legislators at https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator.

Tell the EPA why you don’t want Neonics- it’s the most hideous pesticide since DDT and no manufacturer will admit it.
It’s systemic, it gets in the very cells of plants you eat and has been proven to be found in human urine.
It is a neuro toxin- made to kill the nervous system of living organisms- bugs and anything else . It travels in our waterways and has make it to freshwater and riverine life. It takes a very long time to dissipate, and will take down what ever gets in its way. It’s in our fruit, veggies, trees and ground water.
Haven’t we had enough? Tell the EPA why they should ban this class of pesticides.

European counties are years ahead of the US AND ALREADY BANNED IT!

Please share far and wide!

The mission of the Pollinator Stewardship Council, Inc. is to defend managed and native pollinators vital to a sustainable and affordable food supply from the adverse impact of pesticides.

Sign this petition it’s to ban neonics. Deadline 6/17!!!

A call to action letter from Steve Ellis, President, Pollinator Stewardship Council. Please step up and take action to ban the neonicotinoid class of pesticides that is killing our pollinators and jeopardizing food security world wide.

"As the president of the Pollinator Stewardship Council, I am writing to request your assistance in joining together with us to take a decisive step forward for pollinator health by signing onto our public comments to the EPA calling for a complete ban on all outdoor uses of the neonicotinoid class of chemistry. The comments were written by several of our leading bee scientists: Jeff Pettis, Susan Kegley, and Jonathan Lundgren. Together, we will send a united message to the EPA that the re-registration of the neonicotinoid class of systemic insecticides must not go forward. The courts have found EPA recklessly registered dicamba, and as we all know neonicotinoids were registered with reckless disregard for the dangers.

A peer-reviewed study published in Plos One compares year to year changes in how hazardous U.S. agriculture is for bees and other insects. Over the past two decades, it shows an explosion in toxicity—U.S. agriculture has become 48 times more toxic to insect life, and the main culprit is a class of insecticides that were introduced in the 1990s called neonicotinoids, or neonics. Neonics are responsible for 92% of the surge in toxicity.

The science is in, and we now understand clearly the links between bee health and neonicotinoid exposure. The Pollinator Stewardship Council’s mission is “to defend managed and native pollinators vital to a sustainable and affordable food supply from the adverse impacts of pesticides.”

We believe that it is in the best interests of both farmers and beekeepers to remove this class of chemistry from outdoor uses at this time. Please read over the details laid out in the attached letters by Jeff Pettis, Susan Kegley, and Jonathan Lundgren. They present the facts and map out a framework to achieving the kind of agriculture that will benefit us all.

Please join with us by signing onto the attached letters by providing your organization’s name, logo, and contact info. Because of the June 18 deadline for filing these public comments to US EPA, please ensure that we receive your intention of support no later than June 17.

Thank you for partnering with us! Together we can restore pollinator health to our country.

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED BY MAY 13th! PLEASE SIGN!

LEAD for Pollinators has joined with NOFA/Mass and a coalition of conservation groups in opposition to the current draft of the Governor's mosquito control bill, H.4650. (Please see the coalition fact sheet, here).
Please select this link (https://toxicsaction.webaction.org/…/action4/common/public/…) to encourage your State Legislator to sign-on to Dykema-Hinds letter to the Joint Committee on Public Health, asking the committee to reject H. 4650.
It's time to support an ecological and transparent approach to mosquito-borne disease management.
Curbing mosquito-borne disease requires increased surveillance and prevention practices.
Please do not give the State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board (SRMCB) blanket authority to spray toxic pesticides.
If you have any questions please contact NOFA/MASS and Marty Dagoberto [email protected]
PLEASE TAKE ACTION BY MAY 13th (tomorrow).
Thank you for your immediate attention,
