Matchbook Monday: 🔑

The Upper East Side is full of surprises, and I continually come across new ones. For example, was I expecting a magician to approach me while walking Allie last month at 7AM? No, but alas.

One of the (much) better surprises has been Keys & Heels. The UES and NYC nightlife haven’t always had the type of synergy that other neighborhoods have, but one night out at this cocktail lounge hidden behind the facade of a locksmith and shoe repair shop will make you think differently.

The casual walks to and from 7th Street Burger always had us walking right by without a second thought (re: last picture), but now we always look forward to this stretch of 2nd Ave to see what’s going on at the repair shop. Truly, it was one of the first real “nights out” we had on the Upper East Side, and we’ve returned many times since for the great music, creative cocktails, and retro atmosphere.

I’ve given Keys & Heels my stamp of speakeasy approval, while tipping my hat to the Upper East Side for surprising me in unexpected ways. I guess we’ll stay a little longer? ✨

Favorite neighbor alert: 🌮⚡️

Modern and bold Mexican cuisine lives right inside Maya on the UES. Beyond the Street Corn, Al Pastor and Baha Fish Tacos, and Plantains (might be salivating while typing these out), Maya isn’t only a great dinner spot: it has one of the BEST daily happy hours offering $8 margs, $6 wines and $10 bites and tacos, as well as weekend bottomless brunch. Salud to that 🍹🍹

Matchbook Monday: 🌴

The first trip Josh and I ever took together was to Palm Springs - in fact, it was a trip we took to celebrate our fifth anniversary. ⚡Among the desert city’s midcentury modern architecture and palm tree-lined roads are some incredibly historic restaurants, and on the day of our actual anniversary, we landed at Melvyn’s at .

Melvyn’s is one of those places where you can step inside and feel the history, and rightfully so: the restaurant opened in 1975 - happy 50th! - and has been a dining and nightlife destination for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, and many more icons over the course of its existence.

I’m not sure if it was the old Hollywood glam of the dining room, the consistently delicious American fare that continued to come out of the kitchen, or the fact that the bathroom wallpaper was the same that I had in my home at the time (interior design points for me), but Melvyn’s is one of my favorite dining experiences I’ve had and will always be a highlight from this trip.

This week on Matchbook Monday: 🦊

Despite how many restaurants I’ve been lucky enough to visit, By The Way was the first spot I EVER dined solo at. I mean, if you can’t enjoy your own company, can you enjoy any company?

Truthfully, I stumbled into By The Way by accident. I arrived early in Charleston for a girls’ trip and was on my own for dinner, so I did what any reasonable tourist would do: not make any reservations, do zero research, and walk around in an unfamiliar city until something stuck out. I’d only recommend this approach if your endgame is somehow a place like By The Way that has an open seat at the bar, is offering a steak frites special, and has ties to ’s Southern Charm.

A matchbook that commemorates a first for me, while reminding me of that much, much needed girls’ trip to the Holy City. ✨

My matchbook collection has slowly, yet steadily, outgrown the coffee mugs and trinket dishes (ok and the goldfish bowl) it’s called home over the years, and I’m grateful that the stories have always traveled with it.

Excited to introduce Matchbook Monday: on this Monday and the next four, you’ll meet my collection favorites which are tiny physical representations of memories that have shaped my past and present, and maybe yours too.

This first Matchbook Monday is dedicated to none other than (thanks for this one, dad!). A place that feels like it’s been the heart of Asbury Park since it opened in 1974. Though I’ve only seen a fraction of the live music that my dad has here, I’ve experienced The Stone Pony in other ways while it’s reinvented itself for events beyond live performances (need this year’s record show date asappppp).

This matchbook is holistically reminiscent of Asbury Park for me, and I think that’s what I love most about it. Grateful for the city skyline I now see every day, however I’m always missing the dining scene, boardwalk bike rides to Convention Hall, and magical days at 🫶

Rounding out a delicious 2025 with a spotlight on my number one dining experience: a home-cooked meal by for alllll the girls ✨❤️

In September, we celebrated ’s bachelorette up in the Catskills which was made so special by ’s chef-prepared dinner. Taryn is a North Jersey-based gal who brought all the flavors and dietry considerations to upstate NY. From the beautifully set table and watermelon gazpacho starters, to the tomato and stone fruit panzanella (featuring homemade cashew mozzarella which tasted JUST like your typical mozz!!!), it was the best dining experience to complement the best weekend with friends. Serously, check the bonus content. ❤️

Why, yes, I DID try to branch out from espresso martinis in 2025. Considering I’m only highlighting my favorite TWO cocktails, I’m not sure how well I did in that?

REGARDLESS, looking at pictures of these puts me back in the moment of when I tried them and who I tried them with, and that might be what counts the most 👌

Liberty Fresh from (jersey city, nj) - this might be a seasonal cocktail, but boyyyy do I hope they bring it back so you too can sip the green earth, waterside, in a chic Jersey city restaurant.

Jackalope Spritz from (ny, ny) - it’s like an aperol spritz, but funner and fruitier. Lucky for you, this cocktail is also on Bar Belly’s happy hour menu which you can enjoy every day (even those weekend days) from opening until 7pm.

2025’s travels brought me to the Carolinas which had some UNBEATABLE dining experiences!

Fingers crossed for more traveling opportunities next year, and in the meantime, enjoy this spotlight on THREE spots I hope to return to ⚡️

(charleston, sc) - there is nothing quite like a live fire cooking and dining experience, and Southbound gets it SO right. Southbound is located inside a historic home and it feels exactly like it while you’re here. DO: the steak tartare. DON’T: skip this place while in town.

(southport, nc) - how can a restaurant be so cool, so approachable, so lively, and somehow so relaxing all at once? You’ll have to ask Provision Company. It’s a hub for casual seafood dining on the corner of the Intracoastal, which means sunset views are 💯.

(southport, nc) - the dining scene in Southport is one of a kind, truly. Fishy Fishy is another eatery on the water with a vibrant aesthetic and menu to match. Per my gluten taste tester, the fried shrimp seafood plate is the best way to start a vacation while you’re here.

Shout out to the restaurants and F&B labels that are team gluten free 😤

It’s not always fun holding an imaginary microscope to menus or having to ask if items are gluten free, but so many places now embrace the dietary restriction which makes dining out still enjoyable.

As we count down to 2026, here are FOUR of my favorite gluten-free dishes I had this year:

Thai-Herbed Wings from (ny, ny)

Bacon Wrapped Scallops from (southport, nc)

Grain Bowl from (ny, ny)

Brussels Sprout Tacos from (ridgewood + other locations, nj)

The countdown to the new year is on! 2025 was full of change, challenges, and, of course, dining experiences I am always so grateful for. ✨

Of all the meals I’ve had over the past 12 months, I’m excited to give a shout out to my faaaaaavorite five across NJ and NYC ⚡️ Whether you’ve dined at these spots before or they’re now on your radar, incredible things are happening inside these doors!

(also s/o to Josh AKA jerseatboy AKA most supportive human ever for being my go-to taste tester for all things gluten. All restaurants on this list have ALSO been approved by him 💯)

(ny, ny) | absolutely DELICIOUS american fare with the coolest, coziest ambiance. celebrating something? need a date night spot? need to simply YAP with the girls without sacrificing on quality food? here’s your spot.

(edgewater, nj) | this is the placeeee for vietnamese and thai inspired food! Convinced there isn’t a subpar dish on the menu here. A tear is currently falling down my cheek as I’m thinking about their GF chicken wings.

(jersey city, nj) | my search for authentic and inventive chinese dishes ended this year. I haven’t come across many chinese restaurants that check the boxes of quality food AND restaurant environment, yet Yuan has it down in both departments.

(ny, ny) | per my gluten-free taste tester, Dudley’s is home to one of the best fried chicken sandwiches on the island of Manhattan. Per me, the gluten-free eater, very few spots do brunch better than Dudley’s.

(newark, nj) | not ONE bad tapas (or, sangria pitcher) hit the table here. I know exactly where I’d dine again before attending an event at either or .

(Almost) home for the holidays ✨⚡️

Love coming back to North Jersey to see that is open in Westwood! A dirty Yoo-hoo and a Bee’s Knees are officially the best way to start the holiday break.

Hope everyone is having a safe, healthy and happy (okay, and caffeinated) season ❤️
