It never crossed my mind at the time that fresh is best and that gathering eggs was a way to be connected to my food. These days food is processed, polished, and packaged in a different town, state, or all too often even a different part of the world. Last year Bruce and I were talking about organic, what it meant, how it is defined differently by almost everyone. We started talking about eggs at
the same time as we'd been buying organic eggs for quite a while. We also talked about finding ways to connect and reconnect with food. One thing led to another and now we're happy to announce that we have fresh eggs from the girls next door. Our small flock, of just under sixty birds are varied breeds of brown layers, meaning that the eggs are all varying shades of brown shells. We let them free range throughout the day and feed them only organic pellets and scratch. At night we herd them back into the barn to keep them safe. We have wall mounted laying beds so the "ladies" are never caged or penned in. We're currently working on setting up some raised garden beds and in the future intend to grow and harvest as much of our own vegetables as possible. I've a passion for heirloom seeds and we intend to carry that passion into all that we plant grow and harvest at Two Bear Farms.
