Need Flu relief? Seems to be THAT time of year again!
SWEET GUM TINCTURE IS OUR GO TO
Sweet Gum trees have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries! Their seeds, the green poky balls you see pictured below, are full of healing benefits!
Sweet Gum has ....
Antiviral properties: Sweetgum is a source of shikimic acid, a key ingredient in the antiviral medication Tamiflu. It can be extracted from the leaves, bark, and young, infertile seeds.
Antibacterial and antifungal effects: Extracts from the resin (storax) and leaves have demonstrated activity against various pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA and certain fungi.
Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory: The tree's extracts contain antioxidant compounds that may help protect cells from damage. They also show anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting compounds that cause inflammation.
Antihypertensive: The sap contains compounds, like benzyl benzoate, that have been shown to help lower blood pressure.
Wound healing: Historically and in recent studies, the resin has been used externally to treat sores, ulcers, and wounds.
Additional uses: Traditional uses include remedies for coughs, respiratory infections, and dysentery, as well as use as a sedative.
We used this last year in our family with great results!
Typical dosage is 30–60 drops (1–2 dropperfuls) diluted in an 8-ounce glass of water, up to 3 times daily as needed.
