Racine Astronomical Society - truly a hidden gem!

For the past two years we have been taking Kayleigh to their once a month Open House events where they open up their buildings for the community. Members set-up personal telescopes so people can come and see different parts of our night sky. We have had the opportunity to see Saturn, distant galaxies, star clusters, nebula, just to name a few. Each year they do a free scavenger hunt for kids, where during that season they search for different objects in the sky. If they have completed it, at the last event in October, they can be entered into a drawing. This year Kayleigh hit the jackpot and won a telescope, something she has had her eye on since day one. She is so excited to set it up at home, and to take it to the cabin where the sky is darker, to look up into space.

We had a few Drinking Post Waterers installed for the sheep. Thunder figured it out with ease.

These waterers will be incredibly handy come winter, during lambing and again next summer by providing fresh, consistent and available water year round.

When the hubs is gone hunting, you take matters into your own hands. Tonight the kids and I processed and pieced out 7 ducks for the freezer. These ladies where escaping from our grow out area and bathing in our drylot waterer...gross! After putting them back many times, they had too many strikes against them and off to the freezer they went.

I was especially proud of myself for doing it all by myself, normally my job is just to piece it out. The kids helped package it all so we will have some delicious meals this winter.

The best part is knowing I can provide for my family and most importantly I CAN DO IT!

We got a new dehydrator this year and so excited to finally use it. We love to have apple chips for snacks, especially at the kids games. These Jonathan apples from Munster Apple Orchard are going to be delicious! I love that they are local, no-frills orchard where you pay the same price for any type of apple. I normally go a lot, but this year we have been BUSY so we stocked up twice this weekend and will be going back next weekend to make sure we have enough to last us.

Be sure to check them out for apples, pumpkins and even some butternut squash! It is a great local, family run business we are lucky to have.
