The Blended Homestead raises a variety of farm products for customers in the Ohio Valley. We raise meat chickens and egg laying chickens.

We sell the chickens and eggs as well as vegetables and other products at local farmers markets.

Whew! We’re back to some sort of normalcy after a crazy weekend at the Ohio County Country Fair. Huge thanks to everyone at the fair that puts on a great event for the community to get together to show what small farms are all about. Thanks to my family that showed up to help pull it off- making apple butter and mobilizing a set up that takes over 500 lbs of apples, firewood, canopies, and kids toys is no easy feat and I greatly appreciate it! And a HUGE THANKS to you the customers who showed up in the beautiful weather we had to enjoy apple butter, and all things small farms that we brought. I hope everyone is enjoying their apple butter and farm goodies this fall. See you next year Ohio County Country Fair! 🍎

Waking up the sun this morning with a cup of coffee ☕️ and a kettle full of apples 🍎 at the Ohio County Country Fair. Today many new friends and old will stop and give me a hand stirring this pot of apple butter and learn how we and our ancestors made apple butter and memories of old and new.

Please stop by- by arms are getting tired already. 🤣

Getting the homestead loaded up to go on the road for the weekend! Not far away though. Our annual stop at the Ohio County Country Fair at Oglebay five miles down the road. We will show thousands of people this weekend how we make our apple butter the same way our grandparents taught us. We’re also debuting a new apple butter flavor this weekend. Vanilla Bean and Molasses! Flavored with real vanilla beans you can see the speckles in the butter and molasses. Just enough of each for a great balance of apple butter, molasses, and vanilla. Stop by the Fair and visit us!

Representing our small family homestead on on the Ohio Valley Homesteaders float in the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival parade this past weekend! 🎃 Watching these two smile nonstop meant everything to this farm Dad. Teddy took the waving duties very seriously and Maci screaming HI 👋 to everyone along the route was something I’ll never forget. 😁So proud of these homestead helpers and appreciative of the opportunities our small family farm gives us. Thanks Nana for joining us in the festivities! 🍂🎃🌾

A weekend well spent! I was asked to be a judge for the Brooke County Fair! Now to realize I was never what someone considers a ‘Fair’ kind of person. I never went to a fair until the Ohio County Country Fair asked me to exhibit chickens at theirs years ago. I have always considered myself someone who will always help out when I can. Congratulations to all of those farmers and bakers who won! Thanks to fellow Judges Kacey Gantzer and Chef Darcy Riggs and those who worked so hard to grow the fair, especially the Agricultural side!

Bonus- I was able to stay to watch the legendary kids pedal pull competition! 🚜Such a great time and can’t wait until next year. Great things going on at the Brooke County Fair. See you next year!

On Thursday and Friday I taught all fifth graders in Marshall County at the annual Hands On Ag Day. I’ve done this for plenty of years and I think the kids I first taught will be graduating high school this year! It is such a special event and this year was extra special. Teddys prek was closed on Friday so he was able to go and teach chickens with me! What a great time we had. He also was able to ride a horse for the first time(and second time 😁) ever!

Thanks to the Northern Panhandle Conservation District for putting on this event annually.

The one thing we don’t put on our ingredients list of our apple butter is heart. ❤️ A family tradition that keeps growing. Teddy has become the official advisor on making apple butter- making sure the apple butter doesn’t burn on the side of the kettle, and to keep stirring. This batch took a whopping 17 hours of total cooking!

We had the Ohio County 4-H Club out for their annual Apple butter day. Many familiar faces and many new farming friends. It if always wonderful to educate kids and adults of the history of food preservation and how we continue this tradition each year. 🍎

Apple 🍎 butter season is here! Our apples are all local from our friends at Packers Orchard just over the river. I use a variety of apples of sweet and tart flavors to give the apple butter a wonderful flavor. Each batch is different and unique. Apple quiz! This batch will have six varieties of apples in them- can you make them all? I’ll post the answer tomorrow in the comments for you to check to see if you got them right. 🍎

Maci’s first full farmers market morning! Dad’s heart is overflowing. ❤️ With Teddy coming each week up to this point, he knows all the spots for the best market goodies. Plenty of sidewalk chalk to play with and wonderful new market friends for her to meet.
