Does Luke remind you of Mrs Cora?

This is our old dog Luke or as my dad says the best dog that ever lived. That's actually one of the reason we got Cora because she favored Luke.
Luke was one of Mom and Dad's first dogs. He would never go in the doorway where Bob was killed he would always walk around to the back entrance of the barn. The neighbor boy Brian started hanging out at the farm when he was 14. He shortly just became a part of the family. He always said that "if the dog wasn't going in that way I'm not going in that way", so he also would walk around to the back entrance of the barn. This was all till one day when he was walking around and Bob came walking towards him down the barn bridge. 👻

The ghost of DCF..
When Mom and Dad originally moved in they brought a bull home that had been living at our grandparents house. They put it in the stall right of the milk house.This also happens to be the stall where Bob was gored by the bull. At the time when Mom and Dad moved in they had removed all the windows in this stall. Dad was outside of the barn and he could hear windows breaking out and commotion within the stall. He thought "oh that bull must be trying to get out of that pen" and when he went in to see what was going on the bull was just laying there asleep.
At the same time more strange things occurred. Our dining room has two outdoor entrances to it. One is so when the men came in from the field they could go directly into eat without going around the entire house. This is where they bring the body into the house for the viewing because they believe that it is bad luck to bring the body in through the main door. This is also the room where Bob's was laid out for the viewing. So while Dad was hearing all this crashing going on in the stall and nothing was happening the windows on the door flew out and shattered from the inside the house to the outside of the house. Our only thoughts are that new bull of dads brought out the energy of that somber day.

Annual retelling of The Ghost Of DCF.
I had asked Dad when the first time he saw Bob on the farm. We used to milk in the old stanchion barn up till we built the new barn. Dad said he was leaned over putting a milker on and sure enough Bob was leaned up in the door way smoking a pipe and watching him. Many of the stories I asked family and friends have smelled pipe smoke in the barn. And we still get many nights where the smell lingers in the air.

Harvest day! We'll watch for you but please watch for us too! Trucks are rolling, tractors are moving, lots of loud noises. If you shop today please consider keeping kids close and pull all the way up to the barn.

It's October which means we love to run our ghost of DCF stories and tales. In 1950 Bob Anderson was gored by a bull in the room to the right of the milk house. He died that day right where the current cheese shack is now. Throughout the years he's been seen still hanging around. Follow along for our annual retelling of what goes bump in the night at DCF.

Just a man & his cattle in the morning office meeting. Part of dairy farming is walking the herd. This is where we find limps, heats (aka girls feeling frisky), or those oddly standing off from the group maybe not feeling well. Its also where the girls get some extra love and head scratches or a silent telepathic talking to.
