Let’s talk Ayam Cemani. I didn’t realize how small and slow growing they are. These sweet babes are still in the day olds brooder because of their size, compared to the leghorns. At 3 weeks old they are in their ugly feathering stage, where they lose the fluff and get their feathers. They are very patient with the itty babies. Thursday we took out 14, then added 10ish new chicks. They just go with the flow. The giant 4 week old leghorns come over to visit them and hop back to their brooder. The leghorns also like to roost on the edge and watch the babies. This has been a fun Spring journey albeit with a few heartbreaks.
