Some History....

Whiteclay Grocery has been family owned and operated since 2000 by Lance & Copper Moss. Lance was raised in the Whiteclay/Pine Ridge/Rushville area and spent many of his childhood years right here in the store when his parents owned the business, which was then called "Red & White". He would sometimes be found riding on the end of a customer's shopping cart as a child while his m

om ran the till:) Later, his dad trained him in the meat department, as well as how to hunt, prepare and cook wild game. Lance's wife Copper was born and raised in Glennallen, Alaska on the Copper River (hence the name!) to a family of eight children. She comes from the Ahtna Athabascan tribe in south-central Alaska. Copper spent three years as a bank teller in Rushville when it was still called "Stockman's" before moving to the Whiteclay area.

Come on down & join us as we say THANK YOU to all our customers for 25 years of relationship & loyal patronage. We have some die-hard clients who've been shopping with us faithfully since day one! Coming in with their grandparents, then growing up and bringing their own children then grandchildren, to stock up their cupboards. Picking up delicious roast beef for events, grabbing cigs & a quick chat & a laugh at the registers. And then there are the many who joined up along the way as well as the brand new faces we love to see!

We were 32 and 26 years old when we bought the store in 2001... 25 years ago. We had 2 young children, had been married for 5 years and had never run a business before! Now we are 57 & 51 (geee, gettin up there 😉), our own children have both grown up, and we've also been blessed with a son-in-law & 5 grandchildren! So much has happened in those years; ups and downs, highs and lows. We want to show our appreciation to our customers for sticking by us through it all. We have watched each other's children grow up, comforted each other when dear ones have passed on, and all the life in between. We continue to learn new things every day.
