✨LOCAL VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: SAPPHIRE BYRD✨

For the month of June, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on the artist who has created our fun Third Street graphics: .byrd !

You may recognize the artist behind Sapphire Byrd, as she is one of our employees! Arnica is a graphic designer, and you can find her art on our merch!

Arnica is a Montana native, having grown up around Eureka/Whitefish. A lifelong artist, she has recently started her graphic design and illustrations business. Through her art, she aims to bring people a little joy. Her art is usually colorful and fun, often with a puny element as well!!
She loves all things nature, and has a small obsession with birds. Her all around appreciation for birds led her to her business name, and birds are a frequent subject of her art!
She has an interest in alternative medicine and health, leading her to work here at Third Street! Her hobbies include photography, painting, birdwatching, xc skiing, and frolicking in our beautiful wilderness!

How well do you know your plants?
Can you guess which of these four yellow, local flowers is an Arnica?

Arnica is well known for its medicinal properties and use in homeopathic remedies. It is commonly used in salves as relief for sore muscles and bruises, or homeopathic sublingual pellets for general pain. Arnica grows locally in Montana, and is poisonous if not processed properly, so not not ingest the flower, but can you ID it?

We have a few different types of Arnica that grow locally.
🌼Arnica cordifolia (Heart leaf Arnica)
🌼Arnica latifolia (Broadleaf or Mountain Arnica)

🌼Arnica Montana is the most commonly used species in salves/creams/remedies. It is native to European countries.

We sell a variety of Arnica products, some locally made, and some from well known companies. All of them are great!
Use Arnica if you have muscle pain, soreness or bruising.

Have you ever eaten a dandelion?

More people than you think say yes! Some for health reasons, some for salads, and some because the fluffy seeds just look so tasty (do not inhale).
Well, here at Third Street, we sell dandelions in tea form!! This is by far the most delicious way to ingest these cute little flowers. Dandy Blend is used by many as a replacement for coffee, as it has a similar earthy taste.

There are many ways to implement Dandy Blend into your diet, several which are listed on their packaging.
Check out this recipe from one of our staff members that is perfect for any time of day! Best served hot, but could also be made into an iced tea.

This warm weather has got ice cream on our minds! Or is it gelato?

Good thing that we have both here at Third Street!
But what is the difference?

🍦Milk/cream: Gelato uses more milk and less cream than ice cream does.
🍦Eggs: Ice cream often has egg or egg yolks
🍦Fat content: Gelato has a lower fat content that ice cream
🍦Churning speed: Gelato is churned at a slower rate than ice cream

To be considered as ice cream it must have at least 10% milk fat by weight. This varies depending on the type of ice cream. Gelato has a much lower fat percentage, generally from 0% to 6%. The texture of the ice cream/gelato also varies depending on fat content, which is why ice cream is generally more creamy than gelato.

We have dairy-free and dairy options for both gelato and ice cream. As well as some sugar free options! Don’t worry about picking the right one, because all of them are delicious!!
