Plants are amazing! They use the process of photosynthesis to combine the suns energy with carbon dioxide to produce carbon-based sugars to feed themselves and the soil.

So as farmers, a lot of what we’re harvesting is solar energy. So in keeping with that theme, last year we partnered with the USDA via a REAP grant to put solar panels on our barns, so that all the energy to run our farm also comes from the sun.

And today we followed that thread one step further with the purchase of an electric tractor from This style tractor allows us better visibility of our crops while cultivating, while also being nearly silent and exhaust free, which is a pleasant change! Still adjusting cultivators to find the right setup, so this is just a quick glimpse of its maiden voyage!

Well, Hell. No literally, this is well hell. 😂

Last summer our well failed underground and starting sucking silt and sand. So we drilled a new one. That one was contaminated with naturally occurring arsenic! After researching filter and treatment options, we decided to abandon the new well, and try again on a different part of the farm.

Fingers crossed this one is clean! 🤞

This time last year I took a “bucket list” trip to go backpacking in Patagonia. I shared the trail with wonderful people from all over the world, ate lots of empanadas, and hike along miles! It felt good to be on the trail again……

Here at the farm, we’ve really enjoyed working with and their Dexter breed of cattle. Even the golden boys are getting in on things.

Damn!!!!!, that was a fine autumn day!!!! Two afternoons of olanting, and we will get our 20,000 garlic cloves in the ground for next year!

And if anyone is interested, we plant 3 rows in each bed, the outside 2 beds with the water wheel transplanter (no water), and the middle bed by hand….it keeps things moving along at a good pace.
