Summer doesn’t leave much spare time on a ranch.

Between breeding season, haying, cattle work, and trying to finish the list of projects before the snow flies again, repainting two massive old barns probably wouldn’t normally be very high on the priority list…but we’re going to give it a shot before September.

If you’ve ever driven the overpass between Dodson and Malta and looked south, you’ve probably seen them. Two massive old barns sitting among the cottonwoods along the Milk River.

As we get ready to welcome everyone to Math Farms Angus for the North Central Montana Angus Tour this September, we’ve been working on giving these old giants a little attention. One lean-to has a new tin roof, the second is underway, and next up we’ll start tackling some paint.

These barns have seen a lot in their lifetime. There was once a barn dance held in the loft. They were the hub of the farming operation, and inside you can still see remnants of the grain system that moved grain through the barns, a pretty impressive setup for its time.

Buildings like these take a tremendous amount of work to maintain, but they’re also part of the history of this place. We’d rather put in the work than watch that history disappear.

Hopefully with a little attention now, these two will still be standing along the Milk River for another 100 years.

And if you join us for the Angus Tour in September, you’ll get a chance to see them for yourself.

Pretty proud of this girl.

Aidree and PAC Man had a heck of a day at the Phillips County Fair, bringing home Grand Champion Market Steer.

She also showed her heifer in Advanced Junior Showmanship, earning 2nd Place, and made the final drive in the Breeding Heifer division.

It’s been fun watching her put in the work all summer. These kinds of moments are earned long before fair week.

We’re also proud of what North Pacific 208 continues to produce. PAC Man is another example of the kind of cattle we’re striving to raise…powerful, functional, quiet in disposition, and competitive when it counts.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to congratulate Aidree, Michelle, my parents, and our family. We truly appreciate all the support from our friends, fellow cattle producers, and our community.

Congratulations to all the exhibitors this week. The future of our industry is in good hands.
