One of our very own VMS herds (Valley View Dairy) went through some rocky times this last Christmas. Now today leading into the 2025 Holiday Season the farm is back at 100% and thriving. It is our privilege to work with producers like the Snodgrass family, and help them progress their farm into the future. Thank you Ron, Kristi, Myrna, and Tom for your business and friendship.

Last December, Ron Snodgrass suffered a double brain aneurysm. Today, Ron is functioning at 100% with no lasting setbacks from the trauma his brain endured.

Wondering about DeLaval Flow-Responsive™ Milking? Well, it uses actual milk flow to adjust milking parameters like vacuum and pulsation to create a more efficient milk flow profile. Flow-Adjusted Vacuum speeds up the milk-extraction by lifting the vacuum level when high milk flow is available and then reducing the level again once high flow has ended. This is avoiding the inevitable trade-off between udder-health and productivity that is created by a fixed vacuum level over the entire milking process.

At this year’s World Dairy Expo, DeLaval sparked discussion around the growing interest in eliminating feed inside VMS robotic milking systems. But is it right for your dairy? Success depends on thoughtful planning and full team commitment:

✔️ Guided traffic flow — Barn design must support consistent robot visits.
✔️ Cow training — Structured and consistent protocol, especially for new cows entering the facility.
✔️ High-energy TMR — Keeps cows motivated outside the robot.
✔️ Farm & team buy-in — Everyone, from staff to nutritionists, must be aligned.

⚠️ The no-feed approach isn’t one-size-fits-all — but with the right layout, rations, and routines, it can be a strong strategy for progressive farms.

👉 Explore whether it’s the right fit for your operation with DeLaval and their nutrition partners.

A Business Built On Service

The Scharine Group Inc. is a family-owned and -operated agricultural, automation and construction business serving customers in the grain, dairy and livestock markets throughout southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois and also manufactures material handling products for many commercial manufacturing industries. Based in Whitewater, Wisconsin, the company has been serving the needs of regional farmers for more than 52 years.

Charles Scharine established the business in 1962 and is still actively involved. When he started out, The Scharine Group focused primarily on the livestock and dairy end of the agricultural market. In the 1970s, the company expanded into grain storage, drying and handling. In the early ‘90s, applying existing capabilities of fabrication in the agricultural equipment industry, the company branched out into custom steel fabrication for automotive and other manufacturing industries.

Charles’ sons, Blake, Jason and Marcus Scharine, grew up in the business and all came to work full time after completing school. Marcus focuses on the grain side of the operation and Blake is the head of the dairy and livestock division. Jason manages the day to day operations of the facility, as well as the fleet of vehicles and the vast amount of machinery used in both the manufacturing and installation companies. All benefit from the company’s third division, which provides custom steel fabrication solutions for agricultural and commercial clients.
