STATEMENT: Commissioner Sid Miller is responding to a recent USDA report that listed the national cattle herd at its lowest level in 75 years. This trend is alarming, but an effective beef policy, including heifer tax credits, will help producers to be more competitive and meet the nation’s food supply demands.

The following statement may be attributed to Commissioner Sid Miller.

“The way we lower beef prices and restore affordability is by putting American beef first. That starts with rebuilding our cattle herd. I’m calling for a Heifer Retention Tax Credit, modeled after the Child Tax Credit, that would allow cow-calf operators to receive a tax credit for retaining heifers and expanding their herds. This policy would be the most direct way to help rebuild our national herd, increase beef production, and ultimately bring relief to American families at the grocery store."

Hey College Students (21 & Under) and High School Seniors!

Big day — applications open today! And trust us, you don’t want to drag your boots on this one. The deadline is March 15th.

We’re giving away twenty $1,000 scholarships to students who are passionate about the livestock show world or livestock production. No ag major required—just genuine commitment to staying involved in the industry.

These scholarships are fully funded by Sullivan Supply and selected by an independent, confidential panel of five respected industry leaders. To keep the process fair, the Sullivan family, Sullivan Supply employees, and their immediate family members aren’t part of the committee and aren’t eligible to apply.

Winners will be announced on our website in May 2026.

Who Can Apply:
• College students (21 or younger) and high school seniors
• Residents of the U.S. or Canada

I am writing to you today with an important announcement regarding the future of our organization. As of January 1, 2025, the Texas Polled Hereford Association will officially join with the Texas Hereford Association. This significant step is a result of our shared commitment to enhancing the welfare and promotion of the Hereford breed in Texas. The decision to pursue this merger has been made after careful consideration and in-depth
discussions with our board leadership and members. By joining forces with the Texas Hereford Association, we aim to streamline our operations, leverage our combined resources, and increase our influence in the Hereford industry. This presents an exceptional opportunity for both associations to build a stronger, united front dedicated to the advancement of the Hereford breed in our region. Members from both organizations will
benefit greatly from this partnership. We anticipate enhanced educational opportunities, expanded marketing initiatives, and increased networking potential among breeders.
Together, we will also have the strength to advocate more effective for policies and practices that benefit our industry and our members.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support throughout the years. Your dedication has been fundamental to our success and will continue to be vital as we transition into this new chapter. Your feedback and engagement will be essential during this process, and we value your input as we navigate these changes together.
