Dixie had a vet appointment today. I slacked off last night and didn't bring her up from the lower pasture so I was sure this morning was going to be a chore and a half to catch her. Turns out she is my baby girl! She walked right up let me catch her and jumped right into the trailer like she has done it a thousand times before.

At the clinic she was my big sweet girl and didn't give us any trouble with her ultrasound. We now know she should be ready to head back to the breeders in a few weeks in hopes that the new young stud can get the job done. All in all she got a clean bill and came home just as sweet!

Here's hoping we get a foal this time.

Yesterday we decided we needed to move the round pen down to the lower pasture where we can use all the panels and have a bigger round pen. The ground down there needs some leveling but it will work out to be a better location for it.

Dawson and I got to work taking down the panels. For those that have never seen our round pen in person, these panels aren't light weight and held together with a pin or chain, they are heavy galvanized and clamped together (nut and bolt) style. Josh ended up having to help us load them up on the truck to move them.

Then today, Josh has been moving literally tons of dirt from our dirt pile, down to where the round pen will go so that the ground will be more level. We want to leave a slight grade for water to run out/off. After we get all the dirt moved we will pack it down and then hopefully soon be able to get some sand in it.

While he has been busy doing that, the kids wanted to build a fire, so I had them grab some of the brush we pulled up when we made the driveway between the properties and put it away from all the trees and brush. They got a good amount burned!

This year we hosted an Easter potluck with egg hunts for kids and adults. Everyone seemed to have a good time and we have decided to make it an annual tradition.

I wish I would have taken pictures of more than just the pile of prizes we had for the adults. There was over 700 eggs for the kids and 500 for the adults, each group had 2.5 acres to search on (we are still finding eggs each day lol) everyone left with something and loads of candy!

Hope everyone had a good Easter and got to spend time with friends and loved ones!

Over the last few weeks we have had a major unexpected life change. We are learning to rotate and make the best of it.

In the meantime our 3 matriarch does; Bot, Gr***de, & Sauce have been moved on to stay with our friends while we figure things out. Our little buck kid Jack is still in need of finding his permanent home. He is super sweet and good with dogs and even other bucks.

This lovable little swash"buck"ler, Captain Jack, is still looking for his own crew. If you desire such a captain in your life let me know and I can get you a meeting , but be warned he will sweet talk you right off your feet, then turn around and go bed all the girls he can find!

Not everyone here knows me personally so you wouldn't know that as a kid/teen I wasn't into sports, my horses were my life from 14+. I always pictured my family being on a farm and my kids being totally animal crazy and riding horses with me all the time.

Well, life is funny! These kids do love the animals and always try to convince me to get more, even though they hate farm chores, but they are definitely not the horse crazy kids I was hoping they would be.

With that being said what they do love is sports. I have always told them to choose what they like for themselves and I will help foster their love of whatever it is. All this to tell you I am currently spending my week off work, digging out a flat area so my son can practice basketball and put his hoop in the ground so it won't blow over in a wind storm again.

We have been working on getting the front yard level enough for practicing volleyball, since we have a net for that. The net for batting practice is being ordered (having to chase down a ball on 5 acres that is sloped isn't all that fun) and we already have the pitching machine that does both softballs and baseballs.

No, none of this is cheap or easy but I feel it is important to support kids in what they enjoy, even if it isn't what I wanted for them or know anything about!

If anyone is looking for a young nubian buck we still have Captain Jack that is looking for a new herd of does to call his own.

Bummer of a day for us. Got confirmation Dixie didn't take when we bred her last year. No 2026 foal for us. 😢

She will be going back in a little over a month in hopes she takes this year.
