As someone from Missouri, I never thought I would run into something worse than cedar in a fence line. But I have been proven wrong. Adding hedge apple into the cedars does in fact make it worse. But we still managed to get some more fence line cleared over the weekend before we graze this part of the field.

We have been grazing the largest field for the last week or so. The grass is still shorter than we would like due to the lack of rain after being cut for hay. However we are hopeful the higher quality of the growth that is there, combined with some protein and mineral tubs, will lead to higher lambing rates. This is our budget attempt at flushing, hopefully it works out.

Meet the Flock #7 - “The Boys”.

The final addition to the flock, we want to introduce Wayne, Brooks, and Dunn.

Wayne is an Embryo Transfer Australian White from Peace Valley Farms. We are so excited to see what he brings to our breed up program.

Brooks and Dunn are registered Katahdin rams from Francis Family Farms Katahdins. We were so impressed with the group of ewe lambs we got in the spring we had to go back for more. We really love the coloring of these boys and they have a great build.

The adventures never end around here and the barn cats and kittens have been the center of things for the last week. We have everyone caught and are working on getting them to the vet to be fixed and vaccinated. We weren’t quick enough though, so one of the cats had a new litter of kittens in the garage yesterday. They are doing well and we will just have to delay things for a bit.

Ewe lamb 9293 decided the head scratches that Moose was getting looked like a pretty good time. She must have liked them because the next time I went out to the pasture she ran right up to me. Also we picked up a new-to-us chore helper for the farm over the weekend, I am really looking forward to having it.
