Today was a day where I checked some things off the to do list. Never as much as I had hoped, but so many things were crossed off.

I started the day with some inside housework with my coffee and then I saw a tractor 🚜 pulling into the driveway…HAY!!!!! We were finally getting a few days of no rain so we could cut our hay. I won’t lie, I was getting nervous. If we didn’t cut the hay we lost income, but we also would have to pay someone else for hay for the winter. It’s not an option for us to not have hay for the animals. I’m beyond excited it got cut and because it’s so think he’s coming back tomorrow to turn it. That’s great for us.

Well, my fence building skills and the fresh cut hay must have had the teenagers feeling like exploring. I look out and they are all out…again. I had already come up with a plan, but today I was forced to get that plan into motion. I put some weanlings in with them and the idea is to move the teenagers to new grass, which I was waiting on the hay to be cut before I could move them. Then the weanlings will take the teenager’s home until they grow out a bit.

Tomorrow will be a day where I’m bringing over more waterers, feeders, fencing and attempting to get that all set up.

Busy, productive, crossing off the honey-do list.

September 18-20th is the American Meishan Breeders Association conference. Meishan Conference 2026, A.M.B.A. Sponsored. The conference is being held Elemental Acres this go around and we couldn’t be more excited to see what they do to run their farm, raise their Meishan pigs, and thrive in a path that lets be honest, isn’t easy to thrive in.

At the conference I am looking forward to seeing so many other breeders that we’ve met along the way and some new ones we haven’t yet met. I’m anxious to see what’s working for everyone and what’s failed miserably. We like to learn those lessons too so we’re less likely to repeat them. I’m always anxious to gain more knowledge on the breed as well so I look forward to all that’s been put together by those more knowledgeable than I am.

Let’s not forget the FOOD! If you know me, you know that’s what I’m all about. We also know that in a conference about Meishan pigs you can already know what’s on the menu.

My whole goal is to support those farms and those families that have supported me on this journey. If you’re a farm we’ve worked with we’re sponsoring one ticket to the event. You’d still need to cover your travel & stay accommodations. Word is there is tent ⛺️ options at Elemental Acres and there is a hotel. You’re welcome to ride with me in my rental car, but I’ll let you know now I’m not a good driver. I learned how to drive on a tractor in an open field and when I did get behind the wheel in my dad’s truck it took a matter of a few minutes before I wrecked it. Sadly, not much has changed in my driving skills.

I wrote this big post. I even checked for typos for the first time in a long time. Then…copperhead, or so it was thought, was near the little ones foot and I needed to act. Little one was not in danger. Snake was not a copperhead thankfully and on top of that the snake was dead already. (Not by us). Anyhow, in the chaos of the moment that post was lost and now I’m not checking this one for typos and I’m typing this as I’m running out the door.

Meishan goodness is in all we do! Farm to table in every single bite! it’s a step above in our kitchen.

Just when I said the farm was not that exciting lately we welcomed a beautiful new litter this AM. I knew Meishan piglets were arriving SOON and I’m so glad momma welcomed them on a sunny day. Momma and piglets are doing great in grasses taller than myself (5’10”). I heard them so I knew to go looking. I found them in a beautiful natural nest of our pastured grasses mounded with dirt. I of course didn’t have my phone on me so no precious pictures of new life. I assure you I will get some later. I’m going to let momma and babies do their thing. New life means new growth and as a farm we’re blessed to have the litters and the community that can support the litters. We put ourselves and our farm out there and our community welcomed us with open arms into their world to serve their family. Because of that our farm can proudly welcome new life and growth into our program to meet our families needs and the needs of our community.

*I will get a pic soon. SueLetta is going to be farrowing soon too!

Well, we’ve been a bit quiet over here enjoying the peace before the chaos.

Blessed to have the peace for sure and blessed to have the moments of silence.

We’ve really got so much going on over here behind the scenes and it’s all GREAT things! We have some really big projects in the works and we are so hopeful they pan out, but it’s nothing like chasing gilts off the neighboring properties or setting up motion cameras where I’m yelling at a fox so not much to be mentioning on Facebook. We’re just doing what you’re all doing…working! Working at this thing called life being no better at it than most of you. We’re enjoying our family and the blessings we’ve been given and opportunities that come about like you all are so not much to put out there for the world to see.

I NEED to do the cruddy part of my job and get online and get more of our product online, but we are once again selling out of so much because my community is the best. Sorry to everyone else who didn’t get to claim this community as their community.

We have our last few markets for the season wrapping up in Fredericksburg. That will be a bit of a bummer, but will also be a nice to have Wednesday evenings back for a bit and it’s coming at a convenient time as we’re low on so much of our stock for about another month when we will send off more for our farm to table customers.

As we get ready to go into the slower season (slow in VA because it gets cold) we will remind everyone that we offer local delivery and you can always find our goodies plus so much more Twisted Carrot Farm and Market
If you want your HOT or MILD Asian spiced brats go get them from Twisted Carrots while you can. Packed with garlic 🧄, Lemongrass 🌿, Thai peppers 🌶️, and so many other spices (NO SUGAR) they have the hot 🥵 and the mild. The mild ones my kids enjoy. Once these are gone they won’t return for a few months as we will bring in new flavors and we’re working on more flavors that you will ONLY find from Pig Wing Farms. The flavor lab is in full force!

Don’t forget your Peaches 🍑 and Thyme 🌿 syrup. These flavors are seasonal and we’re getting ready to roll out some fall favorites again!

My daughter rocks!!!!!!! Come get your Pig Wing Farm kitchen swag along with all the other awesomeness!

Let’s go Friday!!! You have arrived in style. Today we had the pleasure of telling some of our younger Meishan gilts that they didn’t need the company of our beautiful boars. We had to let them know that they are too young to be mommas and that we can’t feed out any unexpected litters at this time so we reminded them to wait…hold out, don’t be that gilt. I honestly think the biggest con to the breed is dealing with these young momma wanna be’s.
Installed a new gate to help ensure the ladies stay with the ladies.

After that fun and feeding/watering this AM I showered up and started in on the culinary delights of farming. Carrying on with 🍑 theme we’re ready for market with all that Meishan goodness.
