We haven’t posted in a while, cause we’ve been busy making a lot of progress! I’ll be posting more and more pictures over the next few days.

Foundation Dirtwork complete. Though our house pad is multicolored in these pictures, the finished product is the same grade. (Underneath the pad is the hardest clay I’ve ever tried digging up!)

Daphne begged and begged to help. So I gave her a tamp and she is having a blast!

In case you’ve ever been curious, 240 volts (split phase) is totally achievable while running solely on solar power.

After 6 months, we finally have our water well!! We found crystal clear water at a depth of 68’ , and a well elevation of 182’ above sea level. Next we have to touch up this area cosmetically ( level ground, slab, well housing, oh and wiring). However, this is a game changer and is huge for us because we no longer have to haul our water! Thank God for good water!

We started on our footers this week, and hopefully finish them up by the end of the week. We plan to fill the trench with limestone and pea gravel, then tamp to make a firm foundation. We thought about using concrete but decided against it due to the cost (and also there are many structures built worldwide without concrete that have lasted hundreds/thousands of years).

Going off grid with a camper means installing an EasyStart on all air conditioners. This device in particular is designed for camper air conditioners (but there are others designed for different appliances. We may invest in those later day the road.)

What does this device do? It drastically reduces the start up amperage of my 2 air conditioners, from 70A to

Powering up the Shop

Phase 1: Complete!
running wires to outlets, lights, breaker box,
etc. (not pictured. Let’s face it, ain’t nothing
fancy about it)

Phase 2A: Complete!
Installation of the solar panel system’s
electronics. DC Power will come into this
system from the panels(which will be roof
mounted) at the bottom right then travel to
bottom left to batteries. From batteries, DC
Power runs up to left corner to the Quattro
Inverter, which transforms it to good ole AC
Power. Then straight over to the 50 Amp
breaker box and then the shop’s breaker
box.

Other boxes pictured are the MPPT Charge
Controller, Cerbo GX, Lynx Distribution (3
boxes), and DC/DC charger.

And yes, there will be cable management of
the system so that it will all looker neater.
(Just ran out of time)

Up next will be Phases 2B and 2C (installing solar panels and the battery system).

HUGE shoutout to Rocky Mountain Off-Grid for designing the system! Couldn’t have done it without your guidance. Also special thanks to Al Graham for lending your brains and muscle while installing it all!

Welcome to Havenwood! It is a 35 acre plot of land in the middle of the National Forest. Jacob and Ashley are about to begin building a home for their family of 5. Eventually, Havenwood will have a pond, garden, and farm animals.

Follow along so you don’t miss out on this adventure!
