This one hits hard. I've been friends with Jeff for several years through competition bbq. When I retired from IT just 3 years ago, he called and asked me to come help run the pits at SS. Knowing I needed to do something but sit around the house, I did so for 2 1/2 years. Loved running the pits, the quiet around in the early morning when I'm the only one there. Jeff even sponsored this BBQ team and helped us do what we love doing.

Jeff, I can't thank you enough for your friendship and wisdom on all things bbq. Thank you for the support of In The Red Zone BBQ! We'll see you down the road...

Final Day of Service: Sunday, December 14

After nearly three decades of serving this community, it is with very heavy hearts that we announce the closing of Super Smokers BBQ / Papa’s Diner. Our final day of service will be Sunday, December 14.

Super Smokers was born in 1996, built on a love for great barbecue, good people, and the belief that a local restaurant could become a true gathering place. Over the years, we’ve weathered storms, rebuilds, ownership changes, economic swings, pandemics, and more challenges than most businesses ever face. And yet—we stayed. We kept the smokers going. We kept the coffee poured. We kept our doors open—for you.

And you kept us going.

To our amazing regulars, who showed up for us through the hardest times…
To the families who’ve brought generation after generation through our doors…
To everyone who celebrated milestones, shared meals, cried, laughed, and grew up with us—thank you.
You are the reason this place mattered.
You are the reason it lasted as long as it did.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible people who have worked within these walls. To every pitmaster, server, cook, dishwasher, manager, and team member who ever wore the Super Smokers or Papa’s apron—thank you.

You showed up early, stayed late, worked through the heat of the smokers and the rushes of Sunday mornings, and poured your heart into giving guests the experience they came back for year after year.
You carried us through transitions, challenges, and triumphs.
You helped shape our story.
You built the memories that families will talk about for years to come.

We are forever grateful for your dedication, loyalty, spirit, and the pride you put into your work. This closing is not a reflection of your effort—you gave this place life.

We have been honored to be part of your birthdays, first dates, post-game dinners, Saturday morning breakfasts, and those quiet moments over a plate of ribs or a diner burger. Those memories aren’t going anywhere. They’ll always be part of the story of this little corner of Eureka.

Closing a chapter like this is never easy, but we are choosing to remember all the love, loyalty, and laughter that filled these walls for almost 30 years. We are proud of what Super Smokers became, and grateful for every person who made it more than just a restaurant.

Damn cold and windy day to be cooking the open at American Royal World Series of Barbecue.

Respectable day yesterday at the Invitational, didn't walk but finished 44th out of 157 grand champions. Hope to do a bit better today.

Congrats to all our great friends that heard there name last night, it was a great day for St Louis area bbq!

Loaded and ready for year number 5 of being able to compete 2 days at American Royal World Series of Barbecue. Packing has certainly gotten streamlined over the years. Can't wait to see everyone over the next several days, what a reunion this will be.

Home and rested after a great competition in Sullivan MO this weekend. Haven't competed most of the year, so needed a tune up (a big one).

Chicken - 10th place Springer Mountain Farms
Ribs - 9th place Prairie Fresh
Pork - 7th place Prairie Fresh
Brisket - 5th place Snake River Farms

To finish 7th overall. Very pleased to hear our name in all 4 categories. Congrats to Eleven Thirteen Q Competition BBQ on the strong RGC and to High on the Hog Barbeque on a 4th straight GC! Just incredible cooking guys.

Competing this weekend for the first time since May in Sullivan MO. Royal is 2 weeks away, just might need to practice LOL. Forgot how much work and expense, damn. Well, no one forces us I guess.

Haven't competed much lately, but cooked ribs today for a customer. He and his family enjoy them and he discounts my expence for work. Can not beat it, glad they enjoy it.

Back home and unloaded from Smok'n in the Park. What a great contest that Pat puts on every year.

Made a couple mistakes yesterday that hurt us some spots. Somehow managed a 5th place call in chicken, but everything else was out of the calls to finish middle of the pack against some really great teams.

Now it's time to chill by the pool...

Back home and rested after we kicked off the 2025 season with a cook at St. Louis BBQ Society Freeze Que in Eureka. Had a good cook can heard our name several times.

8th place chicken Springer Mountain Farms
6th place ribs Prairie Fresh
4th place pork Prairie Fresh
14th place brisket Snake River Farms

for a 4th place finish overall. We're happy with that!

Forgot! Huge congrats to our friends Rock Star BBQ on a great GC and Take It Easy BBQ on a well deserved RGC! Congrats guys!
