As small farmers/producers we ALL have different ways of doing things. That is what makes us all unique. No one way is better than another. Just because we may do something different, doesn't make it perfect for someone else or their specific situation.

Learning and being flexible should be part of every small farmers world, no matter how much you know, there is always something more to learn.

Another important part of a small farming community is supporting eachother. We are all in this together and there is room for all of us! Social media is obviously one of the best ways for a small farmer/business to get known. However, seems like it is also a way to critique, be critical and exert personal opinions where it is usually not needed or wanted. Why can't people just be kind, supportive and generally good? Why do some feel like they have to build themselves up, while breaking you down? Leave your negative, nasty, unproductive comments to yourself. The old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say.....

Your way may not be our way and that is ok! Keep scrolling, don't feel like a comment is needed to make yourself feel better. There is room for us all and so much to learn from eachother. Be a teacher and a learners not a know it all and criticizer.

Stage โœŒ๏ธ of our meat chicken operation. From small brooder to large brooder with no heat. They are enclosed and acclimate to the temps, finish getting feathered and will move out doors.

Meat chickens are purposely made to grow fast. You will notice that many times their bodies outgrow their feathers so almost look naked. This part is all normal, most will balance the weight gain to feather growth and a fee will continue to almost look featherless. We watch these ones close to be sure they retain body temp and don't get to cold when moved outside.

Giving you a glimpse of working through all the stages of our meat chicken operation. Everyone does it differently, we do what works for us and what we feel is best for our birds. We do not use chicken tractors, we separate the birds by ages to keep them more consistent and work with small batches to give them more room which ultimately makes it easier to manage and keep clean.

Our meat chicken outdoor area, not really "pasture" but definitely wide and open spaces! They are outside, walking around, soaking up the sun, scratching and eating bugs and any plant matter they can find. They have access to shade and protection from the rain/wind without corners. This is the third stage of raising meat chickens.

Yummy dinner last night! Super easy to prepare and go. Smaller, individual spaghetti squash cut in half drizzled with herbed olive oil and sprinkled with kosher salt. I used hatch chili ground lamb for stuffing with fine shredded parm cheese. Cover and bake 370ยฐ for about 1 hour 15 minutes when a fork pokes in the squash easy.

Paired with asparagus! Easy to put dinner in the oven and go do farm chores and come in to dinner ready. I always make more for lunches the next day!

Changes come either fast from necessity or slower with controlled decisions. Either way its exciting!! Our chicken operation continues to grow and become more efficient.

Follow us as we continue to grow!!
