Some of you might be wondering.. “Why do you open next year’s signups so early?”
The real, honest answer is - that’s when the purchasing for next year starts for us and actually, we’re usually already putting in orders for next year before signups open. We don’t plant enough (yet!) to save our own seed garlic so we have to order it well in advance to make sure the varieties that work well for our area are still in stock when we need them. Same goes for a lot of other seeds. We buy from reputable places and unfortunately, 😅 so do a lot of other farmers. That tends to make stock low (or out) when you actually need it so a lot of seeds need to be purchased well before we actually need them. We also don’t use harmful chemical herbicides. This means utilizing cover crops and tarps. Cover crops use seed, LOTS of it! All of this costs money. Our early signups help dramatically and are the sole reason each year is possible. We strive to grow 100% of the produce you receive and because of that, a LOT of planning goes into each year and that planning starts a whole year before the csa starts. When we can get a good gauge of how many people will be joining us each season, instead of us shooting for a number, we’re able to really maximize growing area and the variety of produce.
Our CSA signups are open for the 2027 seasons, head over to pinedellfarmstead.com for more info. *Please reach out for the order form before sending payment.
