Re: Labor and Delivery Conditions
We are well aware the 2022 winter calving season is upon us, however with the weather conditions outside we are advising all cows with an upcoming due dates to try to hold off until after the snow, wind and freezing temperatures leave the area. The weather should return to more mild conditions by Friday so if you can hold off delivering your calves over the course of the next two days, it would be much appreciated.
If you do decided your calf just has to be born during the bad weather, please know your caretakers are prepared to assist. We will be doing regular drive throughs of the pasture checking for calves. If we spot a newly born calf, we will take the calf back to the barn to be dried off, warmed up and outfitted in a lovely calf blanket. It will then be returned to you all clean and dry for you to continue to care and feed. Please do your part by not hiding newborn calves. Do not birth them near the creek, in the water, or the hay around the hay ring. These are not safe places. And finally make sure you claim your calf because it is your responsibility to feed them.
We can all do our part to make it through the next two days if we all work together! Keep those legs crossed ladies and hopefully Friday will be better calving weather.
Thanks - Management
