After a lot of prayer & countless conversations, our family has made the very difficult decision to close Keke’s Snow Balls for the remainder of this season.
When we first opened Keke’s, our little girl was just six years old.
The dream was simple. We wanted to give her something special that she could be part of. A little business where she could stand at the window, greet customers, learn, serve, and create memories with our family.
At the same time, we knew this business could become something even bigger than Snow Balls. It could help us continue supporting the orphanage and ministry work that means so much to our family in Guatemala.
And somehow, all of you made it even more special than we ever imagined.
We have had so much fun serving and loving on this community. Together, we have been able to support families, bless people, participate in community events, create jobs, give back in huge ways, and do some truly amazing things right here in Willis.
That is what makes this decision so difficult.
Like so many small businesses, we have felt the pressure of a difficult economy. Food and supply costs have become incredibly high, businesses around us have struggled and closed, and the fire at the burger restaurant next door had a major impact on the natural traffic coming through our area.
None of those things alone brought us to this decision. But all of them together created a situation where we believe the responsible thing to do is step back, close for the remainder of this season, regroup, and watch what happens in the months ahead.
We fought hard to stay open because we care deeply about our employees.
From the beginning, we have always tried to pay our team a fair and healthy hourly wage because we believe people deserve to be valued for their work. We have already communicated with our employees about this decision, and every employee will absolutely be paid for every hour they have worked.
We are incredibly proud of our team and so thankful for the way they have represented our family and this business.
We can’t write this post without also thanking Cara and Jake for never charging us to be at our location. Their heart was always to support our Orphanage that we have! They have become family and we love them greatly. 
We also want to take a moment to recognize the other Snow Ball stands here in Willis and throughout the surrounding area.
One of the greatest blessings of this journey has been realizing that the people others might call our “competitors” have often been some of the most supportive and encouraging people we have met. They have believed in our business, encouraged us, helped us, and genuinely wanted to see us succeed.
We are so thankful for them.
And while Keke’s is closed, we truly encourage you to go support the other Snow Ball stand here in Willis. Go grab a Snow Ball, take your family, and show them some love. Supporting local businesses matters, especially during seasons like this.
For now, we are closing for the season and watching things carefully.
If the economy begins to turn and circumstances allow us to reopen before the end of the year, you all will be the very first to know.
Otherwise, our hope and goal is to see you again when opening season comes next year.
And finally, many of you have asked over the years how you can continue supporting our family mission in Guatemala.
Keke’s has always been connected to something much bigger than a Snow Ball stand. Rescuing vulnerableand abused children in Guatemala remains one of the greatest missions of our lives.
