Happy Monday flower friends!! 🌸🍂
A little weekly farm update!!
It was a busy weekend around here! My mom and I got the last of the veggies harvested! Her and my sister will be using all those tomatoes and peppers, along with the onions and garlic we harvested earlier, to make salsa!! 🍅🌶️ I’ll gladly grow it all, but keep me out of the kitchen! 😂
We also got the veggie area cleaned up, so that’s one more thing checked off the fall cleanup list!
My mom and I headed back out to the farm today for what looks like our last flower cutting of the season. 🥲 And BRRRR!! It was chilly out there!
I’m sooo thankful for the high tunnel this time of year! All the outdoor flowers froze over a week ago, but the tunnel has kept us going a couple weeks longer! And I have to say, it’s a pretty cozy place to work on these cold, rainy fall days!
But I think this will officially be our last week of farm-grown flowers. We’re supposed to get down into the 20s this week, and while the high tunnel does offer some protection, it’s really only a few degrees warmer inside at night.
We’ve already winterized the irrigation, and to be completely honest, I’m tired! 😂 It’s been a long growing season, and as much as I hate to see the flowers go, I also know I need to save some time and energy for all the fall cleanup! There’s still SO much to get done before everything is tucked in for winter!
So look for one last round of farm-grown flowers at HANSEN’s toward the end of the week!! 🌸
But don’t worry, the cooler won’t be completely empty until spring! I’ll still be doing a couple of flower drops each month using ordered-in flowers, especially around the holidays! They won’t be grown here on the farm, but I’ll still get to play with flowers and hopefully bring a little color to those long winter months! 💐
It’s always a little bittersweet this time of year. I’m sad to see the farm flowers go, but also looking forward to slowing down a bit. Although I know I’ve still got a good month of cleanup ahead of me! 😂🍂
