📣 Do you know Cha Cha Boba’s origin story? Maybe you’re new to us, so we want you to know about how (and where!) the vision for our drink company came from 🧋
Did you know our name is derived from the Mandarin word for tea? Our family lived in Taiwan 🇹🇼 (the birthplace of boba) from 2015-2020 and fresh fruit teas and bubble milk teas became our favorite (okay, daily for me) treat. My Chinese tutor was worried my baby was going to come out orange because I drank too much mango tea! After we moved back to Nodak, I spent years trying to recreate our favorite shop’s marvelous drinks - and I think I came pretty close. (It took 7 different brands/variations of green tea before I found the right one..)
Loose leaf tea 茶 (pronounced chá) is the foundation of all of our drinks (except for Shirley, she’s in her own weight class 🍒). We steep tea by our exact formula - water temp 🌡️, weight by gram ⚖️, and minutes steeped⏱️.
Once we brew and strain our tea, it’s time to divide it into our signature flavors. Our organic green tea is the base of all of our fruit teas. Next we add our cane sugar and single-ingredient fruit purées. We don’t use any fake syrups - if you taste a flavor, it’s coming straight from the source 🍑🍓🫐🥭.
For our milk tea, we only make two flavors - by design. Our brown sugar milk tea 🧋 starts with a base of loose leaf black tea, and we mix in non-dairy creamer to accentuate the tea flavor (liquid dairy would water it down). We add a thick brown sugar syrup for a deep caramel flavor. Our Thai 🇹🇭 tea starts with loose leaf orange Thai tea leaves. We steep it, strain it, and add evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. We could just use flavored powders and offer you a wider variety of flavors, but the drop off in taste is just too steep .
Lastly we make our tapioca pearls fresh daily, cooked for over an hour to get the perfect chewy texture (in Taiwan they call it “QQ”). We marinate them in a house made honey 🐝water to enhance the flavor.
As the boba market explodes in the US, authentic shops and “powder mix” shops are popping up in small towns and major cities alike. Anyone can make a boba-like drink with hot water, flavored powders, and flavored syrups. I’m not interested in doing that. When I set out to do this - I knew making authentic boba tea was the only thing worth my time and your money.
It’s my goal to deliver you a top shelf product, that isn’t just a mixed drink but a crafted and curated experience - one that you might still be thinking about the next day. See you ASAP🧋
