Watson's Honey Do Farm

Watson's Honey Do Farm Dale and Gloria are retired teachers living "THE GOOD LIFE" on their little peace of heaven on earth.

They love gardening, harvesting, and preserving their bounty. Gloria especially loves making and selling her homemade jellies and jams made from local fruits (apple, pear, strawberry, blackberry, elderberry, wild plum, red grape, concord grape.) They also raise free-range chickens and sell farm fresh eggs, AND they sell chicks that are hatched and raised by their mommas. The Watsons alternate rai

sing their own meat chickens/turkeys, pigs/steer. But what they REALLY love is being able to share their knowledge as well as their products with others. These past couple of years have found Dale and Gloria harvesting local medicinal plants and creating homemade salves and ointments from them which are available to the public. They've also tried their hand (quite successfully) at making homemade apple cider vinegar as well as pineapple vinegar, and they make their own vanilla--all waiting for YOU to try! The Watsons invite you to contact them if interested in any/all the products that are produced here on Watson's Honey-Do Farm.

After this past week of humidity so high ya could barely breathe, getting DUMPED on with rain/wind/storms, today is so NICE!!! The temps are low, the humidity is low, and we've had no rain here at Honey Do Farm. I heard they got a flood south of us, but all we had were some clouds. GOD IS GOOD! :D I do thank HIM for the reprieve we're getting from the heat and humidity! For a couple of days, I thought we were back in TEXAS.........or worse, FLORIDA! YIKES! :D

I've been ATTEMPTING to clean out and organize the JUNK ROOM/plant room/storage room/catchall room the past couple of days.............BLAH...UGH....and UGH again!!!! I'm making progress in getting it organized.....kinda. But I can't really complain; it's been 'collecting' stuff for the past 20+ years........BUT...........while I was cleaning off a small portion of the top rack that Dale build me that extends the entire length of the room, I found THIS fella. Not gonna lie....it gave my old heart a START! If you look close, you can see that he bit off more than he could chew! 😃 Yes, the snake was trying to swallow a mouse that was too big to be swallowed, but he died trying! 😃

OH MY GOODNESS! Time has been ZOOMING by so quickly here on our little piece of heaven! With foraging, harvesting, drying, crushing and packaging all the medicinal plants we use for our medicinal teas; foraging, harvesting, infusing medicinal plants for our salves, we hardly have time to do anything else. (Ya have to strike while the iron is hot!) Some of these plants only last a month or so--purple dead nettle and Heal All for examples. Because we forage on our property (we don't spray), Dale isn't allowed to mow our lawn until all our precious 'weeds' are either gathered or gone to seed. With all the rain, OUR YARD LOOKS LIKE A PASTURE! hahaha But that's okay with us! He may have to have the neighbor cut it for hay! hahaha
Any of our followers who would like any of our teas or salves, send me a pm with your address and we'll ship ya some....OR stop by any Saturday morning from 9-1 at Willow Springs Farmers Market. The teas are $10 for a container of tea, a muslin tea bag, and a scoop to measure the amount of dried leaves ya need.....oh, AND an information sheet with all the benefits our teas offer. You can use the tea leaves and muslin bag more than once, so SAVE THOSE LEAVES! We have Mullein (DA BEST), goldenrod, plantain, purple dead nettle, bee balm, and turkeytail mushroom. Each one has unique health benefits, and we actually use these ourselves. We can attest that they DO WORK! ;)
We have several salves as well that are $5 for a 2oz container--plantain (excellent for soothing 'itches'), purple dead nettle, bee balm, dandelion, goldenrod, Heal all. All salves are made with our own bees wax!! AND............we use all these as well. :)

I LOVE THIS WEATHER and all the 'green' it brings with it! I think I can finally pack up all my winter clothes, take the air barriers off the back porch windows, move my houseplants out to the screened in back porch and hang my screen across the doorway!! Every time I think we've about caught up with chores that need to be completed, something else pops up! Geez.....I'm starting to feel like a hamster on a wheel. :D
Good news...............our first broody hen hatched her eggs, and now we have another one that's gone broody on us. She'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon for her "special accommodations" as we ran out of time today. I love watching my sweet hens with their chicks. They are such great mommas!!!! There are sure a lot of people who could learn some great lessons from a momma hen when it comes to raising their babies! :/
Our meat chickies have been moved to the outside pen, and they LOVE IT! They're sure growing FAST! We raise Freedom Rangers as they are more active than Cornish Cross. They don't grow as fast, but they sure do produce some great meat!!! :D We're supposed to get a couple of piglets within the next couple of weeks, and our turkeys should be arrive the middle of July...........AFTER we're processed the meat chickens! :D Sounds like we're gonna be BUSY!
God has blessed us so abundantly by allowing us to live the life style we life, do the things we enjoy, raise the animals and foods that we eat! I'm so thankful for our little piece of heaven on earth, for the physical strength God gives us to maintain what is necessary to run our little farm, for the benefits we enjoy living 'off the land'. I thank HIM every night (and sometimes several times during the day) for what HE has given us.......GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!

Well..............seems Mother Nature can't make up her mind if it's SPRING or WINTER! Not sure about you guys, but I'm ready for her to MAKE A DECISION and STICK WITH IT! :D I have tomatoes that I NEED to get in the ground, but they are gonna have to wait a couple more days. I know we'll probably be BEGGING for this 'cool' weather in a couple of weeks, but I would like to get acclimated GRADUALLY--not tossed back and forth like someone tossing pizza dough! Geez.....
BUT, on the positive side, our 30 meat chickie nuggets are doing great and should be able to transfer to the 'big pen' the first part of next week--IF Mother Nature cooperates. They're growing like weeds--which is exactly what we want! :D Our laying hens are still in overdrive producing eggs, so give me a holler if you're needing any. PLEASE! Our first broody hen hatched her eggs and is contentedly caring for her bitties. The cows got moved over to the pasture closer to the house, and I LOVE it! I can see them now! My white lilacs are blooming; my peonies and irises are blooming, and the tulip trees are getting ready to bless us with their beautiful flowers here in a bit. Dale has had to mow the grass a couple of time already, and will probably have to do it again due to all the rain we've been getting..............however, we won't complain about the rain! After last year, come on rain! :)
Hope you're all enjoying your spring as much as we are here around our little piece of heaven. We've been foraging and dehydrating dandelion and burdock as well as trying to keep up with our whipped tallow skin care orders! Gotta make another batch of Whipped tallow Face Cream as I'm completely out! So..... I'd better get off here, get to my processing room and get to 'whipping' up another batch for Farmers Market on Saturday. (see what I did there.........haha) Y'all take care!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!!

What an exceptionally BUSY two weeks we've had here on our little piece of heaven! Last Saturday was spent at Elk Creek where we were able to connect with some vendors we met last fall and meet with some new ones. THANK YOU go all who came out and supported Watsons Honey-Do Farm. We sure appreciate you all.

There are SO MANY THINGS that need to be done now days that it's difficult to make a 'list' of what to do first! AND....when we finally settle on an 'order' (of sorts), it rains! Not that we're complaining about the rain we're getting, but geez! A little WARNING would be nice ! :D

Our meat chickies came in two weeks ago, and they are growing like little weeds! I've already had to create a larger space for them. They're right on track for us to process them the middle to the end of June. Then we're on to TURKEYS!.....and a couple of piglets. Never a dull moment around our place. :)

We're so blessed to still be able to do the things we enjoy (a little SLOWER perhaps), and we give our God all the praise for that. HE is the ONE who provides us with strength, stamina, and the desire to be as self-sufficient as possible. Nothing like digging in the dirt, gathering eggs from your own chickies, preparing meals from food you've processed/baked, hanging out clothes on sunny days, raising little 'nuggets and TKs' as well as pigs and steers, and getting to forage for all the beneficial plants that God placed on this earth to heal out bodies, minds and souls.... WHAT A LIFE! What a MIGHTY GOD!

Barney says "HI~" ain't he handsome. ;)

Things are really HOPPIN' around our place now days. Lots of 'irons' in the fire and only two old folks to get them accomplished. ;) BUT....we're gettin' there slowly but surely. :D Seriously, we love our life, and we're so blessed that we can still DO as much as we do. It does get a bit frustrating not being able to accomplish what we'd LIKE to accomplish in the TIME SPAN we THINK we should get it accomplished, but GOD IS STILL GOOD! One thing about it, what doesn't get done today will always be there tomorrow! :D

Been picking and dehydrating purple dead nettle and crushing it into TEA! Also picking dandelions and infusing them in oil for salve-making later on in the year. Worked in the garden a bit admiring my strawberries and rhubarb. Cannot wait until all the tubs are full and flourishing with wonderful, healthy plants! Dale has been doing some bush-hogging and building some panels like he built for our bitties for Leah's chicken pen. Now, all that needs to happen is for them to get PUT AROUND the chicken house--and build the gate! He also repaired the flooring in our feed storage room that's attached to our turkey house and finished putting the reinforced fencing around the bottom of the turkey pen. Yep, I'm keeping him busy! :D But he enjoys it or he wouldn't do it. ;)

Honey-Do Farm will be at Elk Creek next Saturday, April 18th from 10-2, and we'd LOVE for you to come by and see us. We've added a few NEW items to our already very diversified, ever-growing list of products......we have been using them and wondering "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL OUR LIVES!" :D ALSO......our Willow Springs Farmers' Market kicks off May 2nd at Booster Field in downtown Willow Springs from 9-1--EVERY SATURDAY until the end of Sept. You will NOT be disappointed at what our vendors have to offer our community! PROMISE!

Y'all take care; stay tuned; stay safe; stay available to visit us at Elk Creek then at Booster Field. We sure have missed seeing you guys!

What's going on at Watsons' Honey-Do Farm? LOTS of things! Spent all day Monday making up some delicious grape, grape-apple, elderberry and huckleberry jelly from juice that we'd frozen from the fresh fruit last fall. On Saturday, we processed 13 of our 'bonus' roos from last year, and we cooked them down on Tuesday. (We like to keep them on ice for a couple of days) Yesterday, those beautiful birds got cooked down and canned!! Now we have some free-range chicken meat available to us when we wanna make chicken salad, chicken and dumplings, chicken and rice, chicken noodle soup, or about any other meal requiring canned chicken! MAN, I love our country life. It's hard work, but so very rewarding in so many ways~~ God is SO VERY GOOD TO US!
NOTE: these are NOT the chickens we processed on Saturday....this is a pic of my first roo, a black Australorp, Zorro, and a couple of his hens. I miss this big fella. He was SO gentle!!!
