Alaska Farmers Union needs new and younger members. The only requirement is an interest in agriculture and a willingness to help Alaska grow more food locally. The organization is in danger of fading away as we all get older.

"Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug." Today I feel a closer kinship to the bug. In spite of 2 days with temps in the 80's my hay was too wet to bale. It rained overnight. I had dollar signs dancing in my eyes when I cut last Sunday.. now my hindsight says "..shoulda baled and wrapped on Tuesday." Too bad 20-20 hindsight won't pay for fertilizer.

Supposed to be in the 80's the next two days. We'll see. Cut hay on Sunday that might be ready to bale on Thursday.

So, I didn't cut hay in the rain. It quit raining before I got started. Weather guessers say we will get 2 good days. should be enough t bale and wrap. Much better production than I expected.

Was planning on cutting hay today but overnight the forecast went from 5 days of sun to afternoon thundershowers and more showers all week.

We hit 80 degrees today...too hot!

Planted potatoes yesterday. 2 new varieties (for us), Caribe & Magic Myrna, and the old standbys, Chieftan, Magic Molly, & Allagash. We also Planted Gold Rush Russet and Yukon Gold. It sounds like a lot but it is only 1,000 row feet. Weather has been chilly but peas are coming up.

I reduced the price on my round bales and no phone calls! Maybe I should buy some cows and sheep and feed the stuff myself. I know it is good quality even though there will be some waste around the holes that the moose ripped open.

Starting today: Price reduced to $50/Bale on plastic wrapped big round bales. Buy 4 or more at a time and get them for $45/Bale. Best deal in Alaska!
