the best pancakes in the whole wide world 🥞

The Orginal Walker Brothers Pancake House has been around for over 60 years! It’s truly my favorite breakfast ever - you have to try their incredible chocolate chippies, famous apple pancake 🍎 and indulge in the best hot chocolate ☕️

diary tip: there are Original Pancake Houses all over Illinois but the Wilmette one is the original 🤍

diary tip: I always order mine as a dirty vodka martini with extra blue cheese olives 🫒 and if you’re not sure if you’re a martini fan check out happy hour for tini martinis! It’s the perfect way to try them 🍸

Celebrating 4 Years of Chicago Food Diary 🎉

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to every single one of you! When I started Chicago Food Diary 4 years ago, I was bored in my room during the pandemic and looking for a creative outlet to share my love & passion for food - never could I have imagined where this journey would take me but I am so beyond grateful for this community 🤍

here’s to many more years of diary tips, Friday lineups & exploring this amazing city - I love you all so much cheers 🥂

now that’s a spread

always so fun trying the seasonal dishes at Maxwell’s Trading! We loved the prosciutto & gnocco fritto 🥖 and tartare 🐟 to start then enjoyed the French onion dip 🧅 Japanese sweet potato 🍠 and the mapo cabbage 🥬 & zucchini pappardelle 🍝

diary tip: struggling to get a reservation? Maxwell’s Trading has a huge bar that serves the menu I highly recommend walking in 🥂

loved checking out Nadu in Lincoln Park! We ordered from the a la carte and shared so many delish dishes including the aritha pundi, kadi paneer, butter chicken, dahl & so many tasty sides 🥘

diary tip: the portions at Nadu are big! We had a lot of leftovers so definitely recommend ordering only a dish or two per person 🫓

my big fat Greek lunch 🇬🇷

Loved going to Greektown to check out Greek Islands Taverna! Seriously some of the best Greek food I’ve ever had! We started out with the trio of dips 🫓 fried zucchini 🧄 & the fried eggplant 🍆 we then loved the avgolemono soup 🍋 Greek salad 🥗 and the pork special with roasted veggies 🍖

diary tip: Greek Islands is the perfect lunch or dinner spot if you’re spending a day in West Loop or Greektown! From here it was a short walk to all the amazing shopping in Fulton Market 🛍️

Loved finally getting to check out Spacca Napoli! We started out with the delicious pulpo e fagioli grilled octopus, white beans & potatoes. For the main event we loved the Finocchiona 🍕 with fior di latte, fennel salami, braised fennel, caramelized onions, Mike’s Hot Honey 🍯

diary tip: Spacca Napoli is old school! You can either walk in or call to make a reservation 🍷 we walked in on a week night and got a table right away cheers 🍕

one of the best meals of the year 🍹

loved checking out Tala House and their adorable patio! We started off with two of their signature cocktails - I loved the la condesa with yuzu & guava 🍋 we also loved the scallops , tuna crudo 🐟 & labneh with grilled peaches 🍑 for a main the enchilada with poblano was so delish 🫔 finally we couldn’t say no their dessert cart! Ended the night with their coconut cake with strawberry & pistachio cream 🍓

diary tip: be sure to check out Tala House’s seasonal menu! They have so many amazing new bites including the labneh with grilled peaches or figs 🍑

tableside omakase? yes please 🍣 .sushi

We loved getting to check out Jōtō (continuing on the Jinsei Motto legacy!) at CH Distillery 🍶Their tableside omakase was such a fun & unique twist! Jōtō dry ages their fish 🐟 which makes for the most flavorful bites 🍣 including amazing dry aged salmon & tuna! They have offerings from 10-19 course omakase experiences as well as an extensive a la carte menu 🥢

diary tip: check out Jōtō on Mondays for all day happy hour deals including $7 handrolls, $12 cocktails and their tableside omakase for only $100 pp 🍶
