As we enter into this week’s heat wave, please remember to hydrate yourself if you’re going to be outside gardening (or doing anything)! The best time to water your plants is in the morning and mulch will be your friend! Stay safe and stay cool!

Did you know??? New Castle County is under a Freeze Watch Monday, April 20 into Tuesday, April 21 mid-morning.

According to the NWS, A Freeze Watch is issued when there is a potential for significant, widespread freezing temperatures within the next 24-36 hours.

A Freeze Watch is issued in the spring at the start of the growing season (when it is late enough to cause damage to new plants and crops).

Not sure what to do? If you’ve already planted vegetable seedlings, consider covering them overnight with a towel to help prevent them from freezing. Uncover them in the morning so they can get some of that beautiful sunlight and warm up!

Perennials like spring bulbs should be okay, but if you have any tropical plants or flowering shrubs or trees you may also want to consider covering them up as well!

Hopefully this will be one of the last freeze/frost events for the season!

Saturday was a perfect day for our volunteers from the University of Delaware! Thank you to everyone that came out and helped prepare our farm rows for planting in the coming weeks! We loved meeting you and your enthusiasm and help is so appreciated!!
