Culinary Adventures with Liz Biro Culinary Adventures with Liz Biro started as a N.C. food walking tour company that grew from my own food writing adventures. Coastal Federation.

I led food and cocktail walking tours of Wilmington, N.C., as well as step-on, bus, private and group food tours around the Cape Fear region. ‪Last-minute, so easy Mother’s Day recipe. This pineapple orange whipped cream cake is a light, refreshing dream. We call it “pig-pickin’ cake” in N.C., where we add pecans to the whipped cream frosting, which u should double. That good!

Rum, an important commodity during North Carolina's Colonial period, remains as an important ingredient in holiday baking, lifting spirits even among the teetotalers.

I used to hate rutabagas, until just recently when I had them braised with pot roast Down East at Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center.

They're hard as a rock with a decidedly bitter taste, but the humble rutabaga occupies an important place in the culinary history of the Carolina coast, and it deserves recognition.

Cheese balls may not immediately come to mind when considering holiday food traditions, but the creamy spheres covered with nuts and served with crackers are a longtime favorite on the North Carolina coast.
