Itโ€™s spring๐ŸŒท! The sun is shiningโ˜€๏ธ, the grass is growing๐ŸŒฑ, and the hens ๐Ÿ“are laying eggs๐Ÿฅš like crazy! ๐Ÿ˜

We choose to feed our chickens high quality locally grown organic feed (which is very expensive), and raise them on pasture for all the greens and bugs they can find. They are out in the sunshine pecking and scratching all day, just like they were created to do. We believe that this results in eggs that are superior in nutritional content and drives human health.

Just one egg contains 7g of protein, 1g of carbs, and 4g of healthy fatโ€ฆ and loaded with vitamins and minerals like iron, zinc, selenium, copper, iodine, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and vitamins A, D, K. As well as niacin, folate, B5, choline, B12, riboflavin and biotin. While these nutrients are important for everyone, they are extra important for children, preconception, pregnant and postpartum mamas, and those working to recover their health!

While our eggs are always going to be more expensive than the grocery store, it is still a low cost way to add a very nutritious food into your familyโ€™s diet. I would argue that itโ€™s one of the best โ€œbang for your buckโ€ foods out there!

We have LOTS of eggs to share! So send me a message and we can get you the goods! ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿฅš

๐Ÿ„๐Ÿฅ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅš Big, well really little, things are happening around here!

1. Gloria had her calf! A little bull calf, who shall be named at some point soon. Of course, she calved earlier than we expected and we were out of town for the weekend, so we missed it! ๐Ÿ˜ญ thankfully, everything went well and they were well cared for by our farm sitter! He is growing well, and we are excited for fresh milk !

2. We have another round of meat chicks, who are 2 weeks old. They are also growing like crazy, and enjoying their first day outside! We still have a few whole chickens left from our last round, if you are interested in any please let me know!

3. We found the worldโ€™s tiniest snail today, and it was super cute! ๐Ÿ˜‚

4. Our hens are finally starting to pick up laying eggs again, so if you need eggs, weโ€™ve got โ€˜em!

Check out our stories for lots of baby animal cuteness! ๐Ÿฅš๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ„

๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ Meat chickens are ready and available for purchase! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“

A freezer food of well raised meat is a beautiful sight!๐Ÿ˜ We are so thankful for these chickens that grew beautifully, most between 5-7 pounds, and will feed our family (and yours) for the winter!

These chickens were raised on pasture, being moved to new grass twice a day, had unlimited access to sunshine โ˜€๏ธ, grass ๐ŸŒฟ, and bugs๐Ÿ›. They were also supplemented with high quality, local organic grains and minerals. We believe this to be the highest quality, most nutrient dense chicken that can be grown! Certainly, far surpassing anything that is available at the store!

Whole chickens are available for $5/pound
Organs, feet, and necks also available - contact for pricing.

Please message or text (716) 984-9084 to place your order!

Huge thanks to our family and friends who helped us butcher and bag all 75 chickens on July 4th, couldnโ€™t have done it without you!!

We smoked chickens from our fall run and served them for lunch on processing dayโ€ฆ I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever had a more tender, juicy, delicious chicken in my life!

We are excited to share this deeply satisfying and delicious product with our community!

๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„ Cow Appreciation Day! ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„

Just wanted to share our appreciation for the cows on our homestead! Gloria and T-bone are big contributors around here, and this will only increase in the future, here are some ways they improve our lives:

- They eat the grass and weeds in the pasture, which encourages growth of the plants we want, and turn something inedible for humans (grass๐ŸŒพ) into something easily digestible and full of bioavailable nutrients (beef๐Ÿฅฉ and milk๐Ÿฅ›)!
- They continually fertilize the pasture and garden
- T-bone will become some of the highest quality, nutrient dense food we can feed our family
- Gloria will provide the highest quality milk that we can turn into butter, cheese, ice cream, etc to nourish our family. Extra milk will also feed other animals
- Gloria will provide a new calf each year to continue the cycle
- Caring for livestock teaches our children compassion and responsibility

In the words of William Cobbett, an 19th Century agricultural essayist โ€œWhen you have the cow, you have it all.โ€

Also a thank you shoutout to our friend, Mule Castanza, for building this moveable shelter for shade an protection from rain. They are loving it!

Spent the afternoon prepping for winter! 350 bales of hay up in the barn loft for Gloria, T-bone, and the goats! Huge thank you shoutout to David Winquist for growing the hay, driving it over, and helping us get it up there! Check out our stories for a time lapse of us getting some of it up and stacked!

๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ Meat Chicken Update ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“

Our meat birds are growing beautifully, and getting so big! We are quickly approaching processing day, then we will have finished whole birds available for purchase!

Processed birds will likely be between 4 and 5 pounds, and will be $5/lb.

Please send a message if you are interested in purchasing one, or more, of these birds!

Our chickens are produced in the best way possible, and the taste isnโ€™t comparable to store-bought chicken! They are raised on pasture, moved twice a day to new grass, so they can eat all of the bugs and grass that they want and get plenty of sunshine! They are fed high-quality local organic grains to help them keep up with their fast growth.

If you feel intimidated by using a whole chicken in the kitchen, we will share more on that soon, and itโ€™s very simple!

We could use some extra hands for processing on the Fourth of July, if you are interested in learning to be more self-sufficient with your food or you just think itโ€™s interesting, please reach out we would love your help! No experience needed, and we will send you home with one of the finished birds!

๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅš Due to high demand for eggs (which we are super thankful for!) we were able to add 44 more hens to our flock today!!

We are really excited because some of these ladies will lay blue/green eggs, which while no different in taste or nutrition, look really neat! We were able to purchase these hens from someone else who raised them for the first 16 or so weeks, so they should start laying in the next few weeks!

They are set up next to our current flock, with a fence in between, and will be slowly integrated in the next few weeks!

๐Ÿ„ Meet Gloria! ๐Ÿ„

My Motherโ€™s Day gift is another mama! Gloria is going to be our family milk cow, and provide one of the most deeply nourishing foods for our family๐Ÿ’• and we will be able to preserve her milk by turning it into butter, cheese, and ice cream!

She is due to calve in September, and then the milking fun begins! She is incredibly sweet and gentle, and itโ€™s so cool to look out the window and see them out in the pasture!

We were also able to get a 4 month old steer, who will be raised for meat for the next two years. He is currently unnamed, any ideas??

The goats are still a little scared of them, but are doing well all being in the same paddock!
