Let me tell you a story about UTIs… 🌿
It’s been over 12 years since I’ve had one.
And in those 12 years, I’ve learned something that has completely changed the way I approach my health:
I listen to my body.
I’ve learned about the incredible ways plants can lock arms with us and support the body’s natural processes. And when my body starts whispering that something is off, I don’t ignore it anymore.
There is no time to waste when it comes to paying attention.
I used to wait. I would reach for what I called the “Matrix Medicine,” only to find that the synthetic antibiotics I had taken in the past didn’t agree with my body.
Now I know my body better.
At the first sign that something isn’t right, I stop and ask:
What is my body trying to tell me?
Was it nutrition?
Emotional stress?
My environment?
Dehydration?
A combination of several things?
Mercy! 😂
The more I learn about this ever-changing terrain we call the human body, the more I realize that what worked yesterday, two months ago, or even 10 years ago may not necessarily be what my body needs today.
So I reach into my wellness toolkit and start listening, observing, and supporting.
And when urinary discomfort shows up, two of the herbs I’ve come to appreciate are oregano and cornsilk. 🌿
🌿 OREGANO — my old faithful
Oregano has a long history of traditional use and contains compounds such as carvacrol and thymol that have demonstrated antimicrobial activity in laboratory research.
For me, oregano has become one of those herbs I want close by.
It reminds me of why I fell in love with herbalism in the first place — learning how plants contain powerful constituents that can interact with the body in remarkable ways.
But I want to be clear: this is my story and my experience, not a prescription for someone else’s body.
🌽 CORNSILK — nature’s urinary-tract support
And then there’s cornsilk.
That silky material we usually throw away when we shuck an ear of corn?
There’s a reason I don’t waste it.
Cornsilk has a long history of traditional use for urinary and bladder comfort. It has traditionally been used as a soothing, supportive herb for the urinary tract among many other things and is often valued for its gentle nature.
I love the idea of pairing these two types of support:
Oregano for its powerful plant constituents.
Cornsilk for gentle urinary-tract support.
One feels like the fighter in my herbal toolkit.
The other feels like the comfort and support.
And together, they remind me of one of my favorite lessons from years of studying plants:
Sometimes the wisdom is not in one herb doing everything. It’s in understanding how different plants can complement the body’s needs.
And here’s what happened to me…
At the first signs of urinary discomfort, I began supporting myself with the herbs I keep in my wellness toolkit.
Within 24 hours, I noticed significant improvement.
By 48 hours, I felt almost back to normal.
But i won’t just stop the support i carry it through a few more days to make sure im fully supported.
That was my experience.
But here’s something important I’ve learned along the way:
Don’t ignore your body’s signals.
Herbs can be beautiful tools for supporting wellness — but knowing when we need another level of care is part of stewarding our health too.
That’s the balance I’m learning.
Listen.
Learn.
Observe.
Support.
Adjust.
And never stop paying attention to the incredible feedback your body is giving you.
After more than a decade without a UTI, I’m incredibly grateful for what my herbal journey has taught me.
And I’m even more grateful that I get to share what I’ve learned with you.
This is why I make what I make.
Not because I believe one bottle or one herb is the answer to everything…
…but because I believe there is tremendous wisdom in learning about the plants around us and discovering how they can support our body’s natural ability to heal.
