Glamour Fluff Silver Laced Wyandottes

Glamour Fluff Silver Laced Wyandottes A journey of helping a Heritage Breed of chickens stay true to their breed's Standard of Perfection. I travel it with a smile and look forward to the future.

When I discovered I am in love with Silver Iaced Wyandottes for several reasons, I embarked on a SOP journey. It has not been easy and probably never will be as the SOP for this breed is certainly a challenge.

Someone recently asked for info. on my SLW. My response might help others. **Wimberley, TX. I will be incubating some in 2 weeks but won't decide which ones to sell or keep until sometime around Oct. when they old enough choose the next generation for my breeding program. I then go thru that group again at 11 months to determine egg quality and final overall type which follows Sandard of Perfection. I breed with the Standard of Perfecton as my goal. Any bird with any disqualificatios or major flaws are never sold or bred. If you are looking for SLW which are not meeting the SOP, there are plently of people breedng them, selling straight run chicks or even young pullets. Your personal goal, determines which level/quality of SLW you desire to have. I started with hatchery quality and they were not close to what I had expected so I went with a top SLW breeder and paid $45 each for day old baby chicks, straight run. Three years later and I am still improving on what the original chicks turned out to be. I hope your SLW journey is a good one and you find what works for you. **If I am totally convinced a 'sub par" bird will not be bred, I will consider a sale to a non breeder.

*GONE* as a flock. Thanks everyone and Amanda. Happy SLW journey to you. 🙂
Silver Laced Wyandotte egg laying flock dispersal. Wimberley, TX. Egg layers only, not SLW breeding quality. 6 older hens aged 2-5. Three 2 YO, two 3 YO, and one 4 YO. I retained enough quality breeders from last years hatch that I don't need "just a egg layer" flock any longer. It would be nice to have them all go togther but if not, there is a 2 hen minimum. A few things about SLW in case you don't know: They are beautiful though not they only average 200 eggs per year. Due to the amount of fluff/feathers, they go thru a heavy molt, usually Sept-Oct. You may not see but a few eggs per hen, for several months during molt, recovery and then cold weather affects the egg production. Most all breeds slow down as they age past 2. All of these ladies are averaging 3-5 per week during spring and summer.

Silver Laced Wyandotte x Blue EE rooster. Yes. A SLW floof faced EE that lays green eggs. Sadly the only one with that pattern/color in that hatch. Breed back to a SLW x Splash x EE cross rooster. This is fun and dangerous :-) but those crosses lay eggs in the winter and I love to eat eggs for breakfast. Plus my own organic meat in freezer. That rooster ratio thing is real. :-)

Next up is 44 eggs in the incubator. Eggs from SLW x Blue Splash Ameraucana bred back to Blue Splash Ameraucana in hopes of Splash chicks which lay blue/green eggs with more meat on their frame. SLW cross to get a better meat/egg bird which lays colorful eggs and lovely feather patterns/colors. :-)

UPDATE: All are gone. Will be putting Ameraucana x EE(Ameraucana x SLW) in the incubator soon and then some SLW in about a month.

Whew. Seven girls are ready for new homes. 11 long months after hatch and finally decided which ones are ready to fly off to someone else's flock. Seven of the young ladies and they are laying. Think Hawaii 55 and The Price Is Right. :-) Six were sold last week. I am keeping 12 of the ladies and one rooster. The following pics are of the "lovely seven". No shipping. Pick up only in Wimberley, TX. Will deliver 2 or more to a public meeting place, within 30 miles for a small fee plus bird cost.

Silver Laced Wyandotte Photo issue resolved. :-) Now to get that incubator ready. In the meantime...One extra C**k is up for discussion. I am still working on the combs but type, pattern, tail, wing carriage appears to have improved after year 2. The combs are killing me. :-)

Work in progress. FB page and breeding program. :-) Pics coming when I figure out how to transfer Iphone pics to PC. This year a 1 year old c**k needs to leave because I have 3 a tad better than him. Those SOP combs are killing me. :-)
