What great weather this morning for birding at Schulle Canyon Natural Area! Twelve of us enjoyed seeing Kestrels, Nashville Warbler (photo), Black-and-White Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Chimney Swifts, Couch's Kingbird, and others. We heard an Indigo Bunting but didn't get eyes on. Next walk will be Nov 3, so plan on birding with us and then going to vote!

Howdy everyone, just a reminder that I will be leading a bird walk
Tuesday October 6th, meeting in the parking lot of the Wimberley
Community Center at 7:15AM. Look for the red RAV4 with the big antenna (or maybe a gray Prius). We will then drive to our destination. The birding usually goes until 10:00 or 11:00, at which point we can depart or have an early lunch. The cost is $10/person.
This month we will be going to Schulle Canyon Natural Area in San
Marcos. We will hope to encounter some fall migrants like Baltimore Orioles, Yellow Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Eastern Warbling Vireo, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and more, along with residents like Golden-fronted Woodpecker, Couch's Kingbird, Black-crested Titmouse, House Wren, Blue Jay, and others.

There are multiple entrances to the park, we will meet at the one off of Alamo Street. We will probably arrive at the birding site around 8AM.

Go out and admire the moon tonight! We'll be checking it out at the Cackle Observatory here in Wimberley! https://science.nasa.gov/moon/observe-the-moon-night/overview/ Just a little moon trivia from Kim Komando: In 2019, a spacecraft crash-landed on the moon, carrying a small archive meant to outlive us, a little lunar time capsule for future space archaeologists. A copy of Wikipedia, roughly 30 million pages etched onto thin metal discs, along with dehydrated tardigrades, the microscopic animals that can survive almost anything. The lander carrying it all crashed on the moon. The kicker? Nobody knows whether the archive survived, or the tardigrades. So there may be a broken encyclopedia and some very tough microbes scattered across the moon, waiting. Thirty million Wikipedia pages up there and nobody to argue in the edit history. Peace at last. And that would not just be a phase.
