…….“Everything on the shelves and freezers represents a family that still believes in doing things the right way. We are proud in that we can play a small roll in bringing the producer and consumer together under one roof.”
👇🏼⬇️😅VERY, very vulnerable post….but I feel like it needs to be said.
I read a post made by another farm today that is operating their own market and that quote stuck me right in the feels. It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one that feels alone in this thought. In an ever changing world and economy, it’s only getting harder…it’s a reminder that we can only do what we can.
In complete honesty, we essentially make ZERO dollars from our market. Sadly, and despite our efforts, we operate at a loss. It was never about money. It sustains itself and helps pay to feed the animals here on the farm. And, I’m not embarrassed of that….its a little hard to swallow that pill, but I’m not ashamed of it one bit. If you’ve ever chatted with me about the financial aspect of the farm, I’ve always been completely open and honest about this venture - the good, bad, and ugly. It’s never my intent to paint a false reality. Maybe I’m doing things all wrong, and there are many times when I feel like I need to throw in the towel because I just can’t make it work. But I’ll always be transparent and honest about EVERYTHING.
We never opened this market to get rich or to even make a living off of it. We have self financed just about every bit of what you see when you visit. We’ve not taken any grants, loans, or lines of credit to get here (though I’m not knocking that way of doing business). Just hard work and a vision to serve the community the best way we can, and it’s almost never easy. It’s sleepless nights, brainstorming, overthinking, stressing about feed and hay bills…the list goes on. But what does make it worth it is your overflowing support and trust in visiting us to find the highest quality, farm fresh foods and goods. And if you offer your goods here, please know that I would never try to negotiate your price in what you ask for - it’s all worth every penny and we value you immensely. So incredibly much do we appreciate you to the moon and beyond.
NOW with that being said, call me crazy, but at the end of the day, this little farm and market are what make me tick. It keeps me going, and I absolutely LOVE what I do. Ultimately, I wanted to create a place where you can trust you’ll find REAL food. Food that’s been grown without chemicals and God only knows what else, like you’d find in big chain grocery stores where the consumers health and wellbeing is not the goal, but lining their own pockets at the EXPENSE of your health and wellbeing, is. Homemade products that have been carefully crafted, tested, and curated with only clean and safe ingredients, without having to play the “is it safe enough” game while reading ingredients. An atmosphere that highlights the importance of locally made and grown and how so many parts of the community come together under one roof to support each other, even in a very challenging economy. A vibe that welcomes everybody; where you feel you belong, with the sense of being comfortable enough to ask any questions you might have. Where you can share your life stories, your latest life news, your goals and aspirations…ALL of the things. Many times, I find myself in the middle of a “therapy” session, talking the ins and outs of what’s going on in mine AND your lives - it’s NEVER, ever an inconvenience, and I welcome any conversation that comes our way. I’ve cried with you, laughed with you…so many emotions. It makes my heart jump for joy if you’ve ever felt comfortable and safe enough here to be vulnerable in the moment. It’s never met with judgement.
We’ve grown and evolved over the years, and I still have so many things I’d like to offer to you guys in the market. Ideas I’d love to incorporate into your experience when you visit. The grace and patience you all give is like none other. So many times I’ve not been able to remember ordering product, making another batch of something needed on the shelf, not meeting the demand, the wait times we sometimes face with being able to fill the freezers with our meats - I’ve fallen short many times, but I’m only human and you still continue to show up.
I’m not afraid to say I’m proud of what we’ve created here. I’ve doubted this process more times than not. I’ve faced failure and stared it straight in the face. I’ve sometimes struggled with trying to find the path forward with staying open. I have no business background, and some days I still ask myself what the heck I’m doing, but I’ll keep finding a way to make it happen. When you love what you do and are deeply empassioned with something, you keep going. I feel like I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do, especially after selling my soul to corporate America for so many years because I thought being a “boss babe” with a fancy job title was what I was “supposed” to do.
ANYWAYYYY, I’ll stop rambling now, and if you’ve read this far, maybe you’re just as crazy as I am😂 But really, thank you. Thank you doesn’t even start to show the gratitude I have for you all. Thank you, thank you, thank you, a million times over.
I’ll keep showing up and doing my thing. Keeping farming alive in the ways I know how and providing clean, farm fresh everything will always be my goal. Supporting this community and local economy, other farms, and small businesses, remain at the very tippy top of my list.
This farm and market was built on passion, a goal, love, hard work, and a big vision I’m still humbly working towards. We aren’t perfect and don’t strive to be, but we’ll keep putting our best foot forward.

All the love.
