Cheshire Garden

Cheshire Garden We are a small organic fruit farm producing Farmstead Preserves, Mustards & more from our harvest.
(3)

We grow raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, elderberries, strawberries, red & black currants, peaches, pears, damson plums, tomatoes, peppers, garlic and herbs and create farmstead preserves and mustards from the bounty. We sell our products at Farmers' Markets and Festivals as well as through our website (www.cheshiregarden.com) and by mail-order. We are only "open" here at the farm by appointment (although we are almost always here).

And so it begins!
I’ve been growing strawberries since 1977, and every single year I’m blown away by how wonderful they are.
And now our growing season really kicks off. We’ve had lots of meals starring asparagus [and frozen a bunch], kale and calendula salad, and even chive blossom tempura, but nothing says summer like strawberries.
My heart is bursting with gratitude!

Nearly all planted!
Nearly all mulched!
Strawberries are nearly ready! 140 tomatoes and 100 peppers and hundreds of flowers and herbs are looking good.
Summer raspberries are flowering and autumn raspberries are growing well.
Peaches are loaded and plums look promising.
Currants have set fruit and are growing well.
Grateful for rain!

The zinnias [and the cucumbers] actually both took a nip of frost Sunday morning.
The zinnias also took a nip from the rabbit community, so today Elisha gave them a drenching of chili pepper tea mixed with seaweed [for vigor and as a spreader-sticker], then sprinkled the pulp along the garden’s edge.
Hopefully, that will dissuade them from foraging in that area, and maybe help protect their neighbors, the strawberries, from chipmunk attacks as the berries ripen.

Today I gathered hawthorn blossoms to make a tincture to strengthen and gladden the heart.
I wish I could give its magical energy to every veteran and those who love them.
Thank you for your service.
There are no words to convey what your service has meant to all of us. “Thank you” seems to fall short, but it’s what I have.

Postponing our plant sale till next week. Sunday’s forecast is raw with rain and gusty wind. Next week looks cool, especially around the full moon on the 31st.
I always plan for planting on traditional Memorial Day, May 30, myself, and this way I can keep a close watch on all these beauties.
Since they’ve all been repotted into big pots in stellar soil from Vermont Compost, they’ll be fine, not stressed at all.
Everything is limited and we’re already out/very low on cucumbers and canning tomatoes. [Ralph just said ”I’m happy if you plant 300 tomatoes!”
I’m happy to take preorders and special orders by appointment. Just send an email at [email protected] for a complete list of flowers, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs.

Hold your horses there gardeners!
Frost warnings for SW NH tonight!
I can cover these beauties; my big worry is the blooming strawberries and just-about-to-set-fruit peaches.
I’ll lay a tent over the strawberries, but there’s nothing I can do for the peach trees except light a small barbecue beneath them, and I’m just too old to do that anymore…..
