This is just fabulous for today's page. Wine Folly is someone I saw come onto the media stage. She has been learning, writing, and sharing ever since. Some people are born center stage, and she's one. Today, she's featured our Petite Sirah passion! She just made my day with goose bumps! Enjoy. This is also great to save and share, as Petite Sirah disciples! Thank you Madeline Puckette!

Petite Sirah Edition: Bogle Family Vineyards Takes Double Gold

2022 Petite Sirah ~ Double Gold | 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Happy Tuesday, Petite Sirah family. Starting today, this is where we'll land every week with something worth knowing, member wins, industry news, and the occasional reason to pop a cork early in the day.

And what a week to start with... Bogle, who just took home a Double Gold for their 2022 Petite Sirah at the 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Out of everyone on that winners list, Bogle is the one name that's also one of ours. They were an initiating member PS I Love You member, and that makes this win land a lot closer to home.

Here's what I love most about it. Bogle's relationship with this grape didn't start last vintage. It started in 1968, when the Bogles' grandfather planted the first red grapes on the family's Home Ranch in Clarksburg, making Petite Sirah the winery's true heritage variety. Fifty plus years and generations later, those same roots just earned the Chronicle competition's highest mark.
..We marked 24 years of PS I Love You on June 10th. Reading about Bogle's five decades with this grape feels a little like looking in a mirror, different timelines, same stubborn devotion to a variety that doesn't always get its due. That kind of staying power is exactly what this organization was built to celebrate.

Congratulations to the whole Bogle team on a Double Gold well earned. Raise a glass with us this week, and if their Petite Sirah hasn't made it into your cellar yet, consider this your sign.

Welcome to Tuesday News You Can Use. Glad you're here for the first one.

Searching for things to celebrate today, with Petite Sirah. This is what I came up with: Magna Carta (1215). King John sealed the Magna Carta in 1215, a charter of English liberties. Then there was George Washington's appointment, Arlington Cemetery... these are weighty, foundational moments.

Petite Sirah is absolutely the right beverage to celebrate with. It has the gravity and backbone to match these occasions.

A glass of something dark and substantial feels far more fitting than bubbles for a day like this.

So, if you're needing a reason to enjoy Petite today you've got some reasons. (You're welcome.)

I'm celebrating because on this day in 1980, I gave birth. Also a pretty heavy moment in time.

Three cheers to you, from Denier-Handal Wines, Florence Vineyard, and Heringer Estates Family Vineyards & Winery. It's important to note that Heringer Estates Family Vineyards & Winery also helped to give birth to Petite Sirah I Love You!

Michael David Winery's wines are perhaps not only the most fun anyone can have loving his or her wine's flavors, but also their labels and their sense of joy are absolutely contagious!

Their Freakshow Petite Petit, for instance, is a blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot.

The story: It's as full bodied as the two stars on the label. Freakshow's Petite Petit is a grandiose, booming, larger-than-life wine! Opening with show-stopping aromas of rich plum, boysenberry jam, and black cherry, this wine showcases rich, velvety flavors of blackberry compote, cacao nibs and vanilla spice on the palate. Dark, robust and deeply satisfying! - Wine Enthusiast

Like an elephant, whose size is imposing, Freakshow Petite Petit is large and in charge! Officially part of the Freakshow family, Petite Petit comes center stage with a joyous act of color, fun, and deliciousness.

With 10 straight vintages of 90+ points from Wine Enthusiast, Petite Petit sure knows how to win over any audience, near and far. 2022 | Lodi Appellation explained for flavors: It's a substantial, whopper style of wine loaded with pure black fruit and vanilla flavors that coat your palate.

Sooooooo good!

Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery also owns two fellow "P.S. I Love You" members: Foppiano Vineyards and Vina Robles Vineyards & Winery. All three of these wine companies are dedicated to creating and delivering the best possible wines for their value.

Rather than trying to do everything at a single location, they rely on each specific winery to focus on its own specialty. This allows them to feature the strengths of each estate instead of forcing production into one place. It is a lot like a spice cabinet (we don't mix all our spices into one bottle, after all).

Take Foppiano Vineyards, for example. We all know about their legendary Petite Sirah, and that is exactly where their exceptional Petite Sirah continues to be crafted. It remains in great hands.

Across all these properties, the focus remains strictly on quality and value. I love finding hidden nuggets of gold, and I certainly found one on the Martin Ray website. While I am not suggesting you run out and buy this specific bottle (unless you happen to crave Cabernets), it perfectly proves my point.

True wine lovers will understand why this matters. I discovered a Martin Ray 2021 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley for $95. While you might have come here to read about Petite Sirah, this bottle represents a broader commitment to excellence across the entire company. It is proof that your favorite Petites are still delivering top-tier quality at Foppiano. I am certain that Lou Senior, as I used to call him when he was my client, is smiling down on how his legacy is being honored.

Whether you visit Foppiano Vineyards (top) or Vina Robles Vineyards & Winery (bottom), both locations offer a beautiful, welcoming experience.

Today we have Stanton Vineyards as a focus. Doug Stanton has -membered our advocacy group. Honestly, without the people who are supporting this effort, we wouldn't be here.

And now, so much is threatened. If I were a buyer of grapes, I'd jump at this one!

Where is the wine that's been valued all of this time? At Shafer Vineyards, with their Petite Sirah. They will not be having a 2026 vintage. We'll be watching (and telling) which this vintage will be in the future. If you're a Petite Sirah producer and you need fruit, especially in another region than Napa Valley, this is your deal of the century.

HISTORY: For nearly eight decades, the Stanton family has farmed some of Napa Valley's most coveted ground. Since 1947, when patriarch Jesse Stanton purchased his first parcel in Yountville, the family has quietly grown world-class fruit for Stags Leap, Merryvale, Orin Swift, Groth, and Del Dotto, among others. They never needed to look for buyers, until now.

Doug Stanton, third-generation owner of Stanton Vineyards, is making his entire 2026 Petite Sirah crop available to the trade at $3,500 per ton. The fruit is sourced from three distinct Napa Valley AVAs: Oakville valley floor, Mills Lane in St. Helena, and JB Ranch in St. Helena. This is the same fruit that has supplied some of the most recognized labels in the region in the US for decades.

Today, June 6, 1944, and my Petite salute today has to be my father. He landed on Omaha Beach, leading a motor cycle brigade as their leader. His unit had been trained, if anything happened they had to save their leaders, my father one of them.

They did what they were trained to do, they all fell on top of my father and saved his body, but really nothing could save his mind from the trauma. A life of unresolved massive PTSD, because he couldn't save "any of my buddies," He told my sister.

To our WW II Soldiers... (And anyone else that has been in a war.) Thank any of you still remaining, and any other soldiers in present service. You are humanity's white blood cells.

We're all raising our Petite glasses today, especially to those participated in D-Day, WW II.

I've a secret I've yet to share with anyone, including my husband. And, it involves Lava Cap Winery. When he brought me from Maine to California, because he wanted to move here in the early 1990's, what sealed the deal happened at Lake Tahoe. Not because of the lake. I grew up on Sabattus and Moosehead lakes, then raised my children on Allen Pond.

What really got me at Lake Tahoe, was their Stellar Jays. I couldn't believe their rich, blue hue. So, we moved, and I didn't see any in Sonoma County, as I continued to feed birds. I kind of forgot about them, until I met Dr. David Jones at the first Petite Sirah Symposium I organized. His label! A stellar Jay! I was so excited again.

I connected immediately! About two years ago, with my varied birds that I feed, one showed up. It only took 30+ years, but I now have those visitors. I often wonder how many other people are attracted by that solitary bird? I have a quiet place, where I put seeds for the Stellar Jay, who next brought a mate.

I don't wonder, though, about Lava Cap's Petite Sirah. It's as rich and full bodied, and yet so well balanced. I believe he trained his family to keep his secret methods of making Petite Sirah, which truly defines the Sierra soils he tested to make the absolute best Petite Sirah possible... Now I've made my own mouth salivate.

Dr. Jones was an early adopter of this PS I Love You group, when it was founded. This happened right after the first Petite Sirah Symposium. He instantly knew the benefits of strength in numbers. At the time in 2002, there were only 62 growers and producers of Petite Sirah combined in California. Today, 24 years later, there are over 1,100 Petite growers and producers in the US.

Thank You, Lava Cap Winery.
