I've a secret I've yet to share with anyone, including my husband. And, it involves Lava Cap Winery. When he brought me from Maine to California, because he wanted to move here in the early 1990's, what sealed the deal happened at Lake Tahoe. Not because of the lake. I grew up on Sabattus and Moosehead lakes, then raised my children on Allen Pond.
What really got me at Lake Tahoe, was their Stellar Jays. I couldn't believe their rich, blue hue. So, we moved, and I didn't see any in Sonoma County, as I continued to feed birds. I kind of forgot about them, until I met Dr. David Jones at the first Petite Sirah Symposium I organized. His label! A stellar Jay! I was so excited again.
I connected immediately! About two years ago, with my varied birds that I feed, one showed up. It only took 30+ years, but I now have those visitors. I often wonder how many other people are attracted by that solitary bird? I have a quiet place, where I put seeds for the Stellar Jay, who next brought a mate.
I don't wonder, though, about Lava Cap's Petite Sirah. It's as rich and full bodied, and yet so well balanced. I believe he trained his family to keep his secret methods of making Petite Sirah, which truly defines the Sierra soils he tested to make the absolute best Petite Sirah possible... Now I've made my own mouth salivate.
Dr. Jones was an early adopter of this PS I Love You group, when it was founded. This happened right after the first Petite Sirah Symposium. He instantly knew the benefits of strength in numbers. At the time in 2002, there were only 62 growers and producers of Petite Sirah combined in California. Today, 24 years later, there are over 1,100 Petite growers and producers in the US.
Thank You, Lava Cap Winery.
